I am new and doing some research
Hi everyone,
I am new to OH and new to pretty much a forum. I am considering weight loss surgery and I have gone to a class with a doctor. I have never been preggos any my gyno says it is because of my weight and because i also have pcos. I want to get pregnant, but this is not the reason I am interested in surgery. I am considering doing the lap band, but I guess what I want to know what are your experiences with doing this...if any. I just want to get a second opinion before I make my decision. Any ideas and story's will help. Thank You!

I haven't done the lap band, so I can't help you there. However, I did have the RNY and that was because I had severe PCOS and was borderline pre-diabetic and I wanted to see if we could alleviate those two things. I was/am a major sugar freak and the dumping syndrome is an AWESOME deterrant for that. Although...nowadays, I dump more on fat than sugar! I was told at 18 years old that I would NEVER be able to conceive on my own and that devastated me. At 29 years old, I had RNY surgery 1 year after becoming married to my soulmate. I lost from 320lbs to 199lbs in a year. It was the best thing I ever ever have done for myself. I could walk without becoming winded, I could actually run if I wanted to(something I hadn't been able to do since my teens when I was a cheerleader), and I felt so so good!
I have no regrets whatsoever about my surgery, except that I wish I had done it sooner instead of worrying about it and having doubts.
I have became pregnant around 2 years after surgery with a beautiful baby girl(that is due in a few weeks!) all without any assistance whatsoever so the PCOS may not be completely gone, but its gone enough that I ovulate on my own and got pregnant only with the help of my spouse.
My blood sugar is well within normal limits, even pregnant and my blood pressure went from 130/90 to immediately after surgery staying within the limits of 108/70. Pregnant it has been running around 120/73. Still awesome!
I encourage into whatever endeavor you feel is right for you and wish you the best of luck!

I had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy 4 months ago. I have lost 95 lbs. I just found out that I am pregnant. This a huge surprise because my husband & I were told that we could not conceive on our own. We have twins that are almost 3. They were conceived with the help of a fertility specialist, Clomid, and an IUI.
Hi.
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was in my late teens. I was taken off Metformin right before surgery. The weight loss regulated my periods within about 6 months or so, and they stayed regular until I got pregnant!
When I went to see my reproductive endocrinologist about a month and a half ago (and surprise her with the news!) she said I might not have been able to do it without the band. It was also really nice to be in that office and be able to say that we conceived without any medical assistance.
