Thanks Allie! Fetal heart doppler question

Thanks Allie for the great advice. I ordered a fetal heart doppler like you suggested. Now I just have to wait (not so patiently) for it to get here. But that will be a lot sooner than waiting for my next appt on April 26th.

Now, I'm curious about who has used one of these? How soon were you able to hear a heart beat?

I will be 10 weeks Monday. I'm  hoping the machine is here shortly thereafter. Where would I place it on my belly to get close?

Thanks for your answers and input. This is all very new to me.

I have one too - they say it is very hard to find before 12 weeks because the heart is so tiny.

Listen  A LOT lower then you would think. Like right along your bikini line. It took me a long time to find it the first few times - helps if you lay flat on your back. We always had better luck when my Mom or Hubby was trying to find it then when I did myself.

Good luck! It's the best sound!

I have one, I used it alot more before I could really feel the baby move and any time after when she hadn't moved in a long time.  (I could hear mine about 13-14 weeks).  It's a neat thing to have.  My husband doesn't like to watch me use it...esp when it takes a few minutes to find heartbeat.  It just makes him nervious.  I typically don't do it when he is around.

Enjoy-Stacey

If you are heavier it will be harder to find and it might be that you won't be able to hear it for a few weeks. I am heavier still and it was too hard for the doctor to find at office visits consistently until around 13 weeks.

Hey you're welcome! Sorry I'm just now seeing this. I haven't been on the computer in a long while. I haven't been feeling well. I'm glad you got one. Hopefully you have your doppler by now and are using it successfully. At 12 weeks when I think I got mine, I had to put it WAY down by my pelvic bone and kind of angle it down to try and hear the baby.

Sorry you've been feeling rough!!

Yep, I got it pretty quick. I  think I was exactly 10 weeks when it came. I was able to hear the heartbeat briefly a couple times before I could actually get a count. Actually, I just checked again last night (seems to be about every 2-3 days I gotta check LOL) I counted the rate at about 165 now. It was around 180 the first time.

I found the hb pretty low too and just a little to the left each time. Must be cozier over there.

Thanks again!! Feel better!!
