?Why the morbid stories?

So, I just have to ask. Lately a lot of people hear I am having twins and proceed to tell stories about twins they know who have died either in utero or soon after birth. Today I had to attend a training at work, and within the first 5 minutes the training lady was telling me about her dead twin brothers. Is this something that a 30 week pregnant woman wants to hear? Why does everyone insist on sharing? If I were having just one baby I wouldn't get the stories like I do with twins. Does anyone else get this too? I am worried enough without people adding to it. Just needed to vent !

I am not pregnant with twins so I don't get those stories. But, I get everyone telling me about someone (friend, personally, or family member) who has had a stillborn, miscarriage, loss of a baby right after delivery, etc.

Also, I work at a hospital so of course we only hear the horror stories not the millions of babies born healthy! Everyone has told me about Mom's who have had a heart attack after delivery, hemorrhage, etc. I just want to say, could you shut up and think about you are telling a pregnant woman these stories! They always end it with "but, I am sure everything will go fine with your baby and your delivery"!

People are stupid!

Sorry to hear you had to sit through one of those "dead twin" stories Carrie.. I'm only carrying one but a friend is pregnant with twins and she's experienced the same type of situation you mention..I agree that it does nothing to ease the mind... people are just weird.. personally, I would rather they said nothing except congratulations instead of regaling me with creepy stories!

Ugh!  I hate that people feel the need to share this information.  Obviously, it's good to have a healthy understanding of what CAN happen with ANY pregnancy...but, I have never understood why people feel the need to share the most horrific things they can think of.
I mean, you can't NOT have your baby (ies) right?  Sheesh!
I'm an OB/GYN nurse and SEE plenty of this kind of thing off an on...it's SO uncommon and SO unfortunate.  It's certainly not the first thing I'd think to share with someone expecting!

So, I'll say this...I know TONS of folks who have fabulous healthy, beautiful twin babies...some of which have been born to moms with a history of WLS or some illness of some sort.  They are wonderful...and I know thousands of healthy singletons, triplets and even quads out there.  So...chin up Momma...your babies are gonna be good!  :-)

I can imagine that people tell you the worst stories ever cause twins is more rare and they want to share something with you. It's really inconsiderate though to share horrible stories with you, but it seems that is what people want to share. I know that with my first pregnancy, people always shared horrible labor experiences with me and it freaked me out. Why they do that, I don't know. I purposely don't share my birth experience with expectant mothers because it's kinda harsh and I don't want to freak them out. People need to think before they speak.

Just so you know, it does not get better when they arrive.  People have severe diarrhea of the mouth.

About a month ago I was at the grocery store with the twins and Maryn (and my husband) and this weirdo stopped us and proceeded to say, "I have twin boys....blah blah blah.....my wife just died a few weeks ago.....I hope you get to see your kids grow up, my twins are 27.

WTF!?

Everybody and their brother is going to have a twin story, know someone that has twins, etc., etc.   It's going to get annoying, but you will learn to ignore.

People are CRAZY !!! I got the most ridiculous stories, when i was pregnant with my twins. I would love to tell you it gets better, but just wait until they're born & you try to go out in public. My husband would get sooo frustrated because a million people would stop us to first ask "are they twins". Then, proceed to tell us stories about every set of twins or multiples they've every heard of. I was so proud I wanted to talk about them, but OMG !!! Sometimes I just want to run into Wal-mart without a production. I wish you the very best !!! Enjoy your sweet babies :)
