Has anyone ever gotten like the flu or something while at the end of there pregnancy? I am 33 weeks with the twins and I came down with something a few hours ago... I haven't been able to eat in days really, and today I started to get a bad headache and dizzy, then nauseated and... then realized I needed a nap... When I woke up I had to throw up... I have the shivers really bad and a fever... Contractions to add to all of this...  I called my OB and this guy was a flipping jerk... Told me to have ice and water for 24hrs and maybe a piece of cracker later... I have been drinking water all day cuz I couldn't eat... I threw up again and now I feel a bit better... I took a Tylenol to help my fever and I just pray it stays down...The shivers are getting better but a slight fever is still here... Any words of wisdom would be nice...lol I am making sure I drink water cuz I don't want to dehyderate, been doing it all day so idk its probably just a lil bug...

Wow...I'm really surprised your OB wouldn't have you come in.  I called my doc yesterday because I had severe diarrhea since Sunday and they had me come in yesterday afternoon just to make sure I was OK and she didn't need to send me to the hospital for IV fluids.

If you don't start to see an improvement, I would go to ER or L&D.  Better safe than sorry.  Oh and add some Gatorade or Powerade to replace the electrolytes you're losing.  Even if you have to mix it half and half with water...it really does help.  Powerade Zero has no calories or sugar...sweetened with Splenda.

Feel better!

So sorry to hear you are so sick! I agree with the PP - get some gatorade or powerade. Keep yourself hydrated. Babys will take what they need food wise, just stay hydrated. I'd call the OB back this morning and hope that a different one is on call!

HANDS UP...ME ME ME!  I got that way at 29 wks pregnant and started having bad contractions, ended up getting IV fluids on the L&D floor.  Don't wait for your stupid OB to do anything.  We get dehydrated really really quick when we are throwing up and having bathroom troubles!  The shivers tell me you probably already are dehydrated and its really hard to get us rehydrated.  Drink the G2 or Gaterade, but if I was you, I'd head to L&D for Fluids.  You have twins...are 33 wks...this could end up starting your labor!

Edited to add:  Pregnant women get dehydrated quickly anyway, but RNY patients get dehydrated really really fast.

I had a really bad stomach virus (explosions from both ends) for about 4 days when I was pregnant, but it was more around 28 weeks I think. Basically, all the docs I talked to just said to stay hydrated and not worry about food. Thankfully I had hoarded some zofran from my morning sickness - that really helped a lot! I pretty much just drank diluted apple juice and nibbled crackers. Take the tylenol and don't wait for your temp to creep back up, just take it every 4 hours.

On a related note, I just had ANOTHER stomach virus that I woke up with Monday morning. Even though I had a very low temp, I was freezing cold, achy, diarrhea, nausea and just miserable all day Monday. I felt about 50% better Tuesday and I'm back to normal today, so hopefully you have this short one as well!

Jeez! Sorry you're having it so rough!!

I don't like the sounds of the fever and shivers. The last time that happened to me I had blood poisoning from a bad gallbladder.... Not to scare you, but I think you should go get checked out. Just to be safe.

Take care Chrissy. Good luck!! Get Better!!

I got the flu at 38 weeks with my first. I was so ill that I called the midwife and they had to call in a script for me I cannot remember the name of the stuff, but they give it to cancer patients undergoing Chemotherapy to control nausea, just to help me keep things down, after suffering for 4 days. Later I found out (Don't panic) that all the stress of throwing up caused me to lose Amniotic fluid, I just thought it was me peeing my pants every time I threw up sense I was so far along there was no room for my bladder, and I was induced.... Needless to say I still had the flu when I was in labor. So it was a rough experience.

Again don't panic,I was 28 weeks along so that may have had something to do with the leaking of fluid, but make sure you get into see your OB to make sure you are ok.
