I am curious, how many of you were infertile and were able to conceive post WLS? This is my dream. Been TTC since 97 w/o success. IVFx2. and no luck. Also how long after did you actually conceive? Just looking for some hope. Thank you.

well mine wasnt post surgery but years ago i went on a diet and lost 45 lbs in just under 2 months and dont you know after trying for over 7 years i got pregnant right away. my doctor told me it was because of the weight loss some people are just like that. not sure how soon after surgery you are looking to get pregnant though my surgeon said i should wait a minimum of 2 years post op if i decide i want to have another child and even then needs to be monitored alot since we dont eat nearly enough really to provide for the baby the right way. good luck with your journey =)

Well I had been trying to get pregnant for about 10 years to no avail.  After thinking that I possibly just could not get pregnant and contemplating adoption, I ended up getting pregnant 6 months after surgery.

We never went as far as IVF, but after being with my husband for 12 years we just had our first baby. I was 16 months post-op when I got pregnant and we were not even trying. I was on birth control. Good luck!

I have pcos and hubby has super low sperm counts. We tried for 5 years, although never ivf. The results of my wls are in my siggy. I was only on Metformin to regulate my cycles. Emma was on a cycle break from treatments and Micah was spontaneous. Good luck, and keep that dream alive okay. Shari

I wasn't TTC before WLS (in 2007) - I just got married in 2009....(losing weight helped me find my man) :)

but

I can say that my PCOS completely went away with my WLS and that was a huge factor in my fertility!  I wasn't ovulating before so I know that the weight loss made that regular because I am a big fan of TCOYF  (Taking Charge of your Fertility) and was tracking my temperatures religiously for years......and as the weight dropped, everything became very regular.....and now I'm 8 weeks and praying!  And the frequent cysts stopped.  And interestingly, when I gained 15 lbs, the cysts came back with a vengeance.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you - I know my situation isn't the same, but I hope this might give you some hope!

Thinking of you!!

I just gave birth to my infertility miracle. We were told we'd never conceive without lots of medical interventions. 7 months post op, Noah Andrew was conceived. It can and does happen!

I too was diagnosed with PCOS before surgery and told that I would never conceive "naturally" or on my own, that even drugs might not do it.  Just before surgery last year I found out I was pregnant but ended up miscarrying - it was a blighted ovum really.. while that was traumatic and sad, it gave me "some" hope that the equipment might eventually work.. Had my RNY and, 16 months post-op we conceived!  Keep on wanting it and, most important, keep on practicing!!

I am one of those!  I had a baby i***** no probs.  Then we tried for years!  I did 2 rounds of IVF w/ICSI.  We were told my husband had .05 morphology (which is almost NO normal sperm).  I had WLS RNY in 2004.  In 2006, 3 days after my husband 40th birthday I told him I was pregnant! I had a baby girl in June 2007.  In July 2009, I had a another baby (a baby boy).  So, I have had 2 post op babies!
