Really in Need of Reassurance

Thanks, Tami.  My husband teases that I always have to find something to worry about regarding this baby or our son.  I never used to be this way...I guess it comes with being a mom.

I totally understand what you mean. With both of our losses, we found out via u/s (both really early on in the pregnancy). So it's hard not to be scared every time I go to an u/s now.

How far along are you?

It might help if you rent a fetal heart doppler. That helped give me a lot of reassurance between appointments. I could pull it out whenever I wanted to and check the baby's heart tones. I rented one last pregnancy and now this one. I rent mine for 20 bucks a month from www.babysheart.com. It comes with a tube of the gel. And you can keep it for as long (or as little) as you want.

You should also be feeling the baby move by now or at least getting close to feeling the baby move. I've been feeling mine since for a few weeks now and I'm just now 20 weeks. Once the baby starts moving more, that will reassure you even more. But the fetal doppler was a God send. I could check baby's heart tones whenever I wanted to if I felt worried. I know it's hard not to worry. I've lost several babies early on as well and it's a horrible feeling worrying every time you get pregnant afterward worrying all the time.

Try not to worry.....I know it's hard, but it's not good for you or the baby. I hope everything goes well for you on Thursday. Are you going to find out the gender?

I'll give the website a try--excellent suggestion, thanks!  I borrowed one for my first pregnancy and never could hear his heartbeat, but he was constantly moving so I didn't worry about it as much.  I have felt movement but it's not every day and when it happens it's fleeting and not as strong (I felt Elijah moving at 14 weeks and he never stopped--I have to stop comparing the two pregnancies!)

DH really wants to know the gender this time, so we'll do that.  It will just be a surprise at 5 months rather than in the delivery room.

I still get nervous before an ultrasound but the "big" one at 20 weeks was especially nerve wracking.

I agree with the PP about getting a fetal heart doppler but if I were you, I'd just buy one instead of renting.  You can get this one on Amazon for $34.00 and unlike some of the "fetal heart listeners" it actually works because it's a real doppler.  Read the reviews and then take my word for it.  I have a lot of belly flab and I was able to pick up baby's heartbeat at 17 weeks with no problem.  I really helped keep me sane in the days before I felt regular movement.

Wow, only $34!  I'll check the link and read the reviews.  Thanks so much.  Hope you're feeling well...you're almost there!

I had my anatomy ultrasound this morning and I nearly had a nervous breakdown last night. I couldn't sleep and I cried most of the night. I'm 20 weeks and haven't felt any movement yet and my OB has had some trouble finding the heartbeat at a few of my visits. So although I was excited, I was also dreading the ultrasound.

Needless to say, everything is fine with our lil BOY!!! My husband is on cloud 9 and I am relieved for the time being. I'm sure I'll find something else to worry about but for now I'm going to enjoy the moment.

Unlike you, I haven't had any m/c but it has taken us 3 years and WLS to conceive! I wish you the best...hang in there!!!

I am the same way. I literally take a breath and hold it when they do the ultrasounds or sonograms until I hear the heartbeat or see the heart pumping, I am a wreck. I feel Jakob all the time but it is something we go through when we have experienced that kind of pain before. Try not to stress over stressing...take care.
