Scare on Friday

Well some of you know from Facebook that I had a little scare on Friday. I had some bleeding late afternoon on Friday. I called the OB office and they said the bleeding along with pain and pressure they wanted me to go to L&D Triage to get monitored to see if I was having contractions. I also had pitting from all the fluid built up in my legs and feet.

I went to L&D Triage and they just basically had me pee in a cup, did blood pressure, checked baby's heartbeat on doppler. Then, they said they would have to call the on-call doctor. I knew the doctor that was on-call and figured he wouldn't do anything.

Doctor called back and said because I was 18 weeks that there wasn't anything he could do. If I was going to miscarry then there was nothing to do so why do any further testing. I was ordered bed-rest all weekend and follow-up with my OB today. They did a quick cervix check and I was closed. Well, the bleeding stopped over the weekend and I lost 9 pounds from Friday night to this morning. So, I guess I got rid of all that fluid!

I called the OB's office this morning and they said they didn't have any appointments for a few weeks. They let me talk to the nurse about getting worked in. The nurse said the OB had just come over to the hospital so they would take down all the information and talk to her when she gets back and see if she has any other orders for me.

Thank goodness I already have my follow-up appointment with my high risk OB this Wednesday. At least I will get to see a doctor and talk about the pain/pressure I am having.

Just wanted to update for those of you that wanted to know what was going on :)

I'm glad the bleeding has stopped...and hopefully things will go back to 'normal' w/o any more scares.  I know drs are busy...but I still find it amazing that they can't squeeze you in when you're having these types of issues.  I also understand that there's nothing they can do if you were miscarrying at 18 weeks...but if it were contractions or something, they could at least try to stop them.  It just seems the on-call dr is non-chalant (however you spell it!) about the whole thing.  Hopefully he's not on-call when you're little one arrives...you might have to cause him some bodily harm.

Hope you get good news that all's well on Wednesday.

It is just strange to me that I had enough issues to be sent to L&D but no one things they actually need to do a "lookey see" down there to see what is going on!

I just wish Wednesday would hurry up and get here because the pain is horrible but I just grin and bear it. I am at work hoping the doctors office will say run over (it is a walk across the parking lot)!

Traci,

I am sorry you had to endure that scare. So glad the bleeding stopped.  I hope the pain and pressure also stops and that all goes well for you and baby from here on out!

Glad the high risk OB will be checking you this Wednesday.  Praying for you.

Thanks! Yes, the bedrest this weekend did wonders for me and my body. Now, I am right back at work and having the pains worse. I know it probably one frustration for my OB not seeing me and two the stresses of the job.

But, I will relax :)

Thanks, Liz! Yes, it seems nothing about having a baby is going easy for me. But, I am just so glad I already had the appointment for my high risk ob this week or I probably would have been freaking out. I get to find out Wednesday what we are having :)
