When you get pregnant after the surgery, are you able to eat more?
I had the surgery done January 25th but the question is for my friend.. She had it done 8 months ago & she suspects she might be pregnant.. Her period is late but the test said negative.. But she noticed she can eat more then ususal and it takes her longer to get full, when you get pregnant after the surgery are you able to consume more food?
Breakfast is all I need, but I have to force myself to eat lunch...dinner and snacks. I am so sick by 2pm. but they say I have to eat because of the baby. My LABS are all LOW, I go in weekly to get an Iron Infusion (IV-Iron Therapy). My protein is so low, my Zinc is low and I don't even remember the other ones LOL... My sister told me yesterday I was looking pale, I'm constipated (so bad that I was taking stool softner once daily to no avail) so now my butt hurts, I think I may have hemmoroids now. So I may call my OB tomorrow and make a same day appointment and see if they can put me in the hospital and hook me up to IV and maybe get all my levels up, nergy back. I don't know but the thought of all this for another 3 months....OMG!!!! My 4yr old tells me I'm lazy (cause I have no energy). Not sure if this helps and sorry if it was to much info....
Early out no I could not eat more - in the 2nd trimester I felt like a cow and just grazed all day long. Now here at 32+ weeks I don't want to eat but force myself. My baby is sitting high most days and pressing on my pouch which makes eating very uncomfortable if I don't eat small amounts and slowly.
Naturally the further out we get the more we can eat closer to a "normal" portion. Your friend may be experiencing that. Also, some days you can eat more then others. Some foods you can eat more then others. I can eat maybe 2 cups of salad but can barely finish 4 oz of meat. It's all in what you are eating too.
Hope that helps!

early out I could not eat more but in the late second trimester I started eating more...that is also when I reached my 8 month mark. The further out you are the more you can eat so it could just be that! Good luck to her either way

I'd say in my first trimester I ate about the same as pre-pregnancy - not a whole heck of a lot. Since the 2nd trimester began, the appetite has become more present, but I still cannot "eat more" - I just find I'm actually feeling hungry and tend to eat more often during the day than I normally did. Like the previous poster, I sometimes graze and can also consume large quantities of veggies and fruit but often have trouble with protein. Pregnancy is NOT license to overeat and ignore the signs of fullness!
Well...around 8 months post op, I started feeling like I could eat more and I was not pregnant. It took me longer to feel full and I felt like I needed more food. She may be experiencing just the normal up in food intake at this point.
For me, sometimes I feel like I can eat a whole cow and other times I feel like I don't want to eat at all and have to force myself. If your friend is pregnant, please tell her she needs to talk to her dietician and up her carbs. This early out from surgery, that is really important.

Mommy to 2 of the most beauiful little girls in the whole universe and still in love with my hubby of 8 years. LIFE IS GOOD!
Sometimes you can and sometimes you can't. Sometimes it depends on your surgery type.
I could eat a little bit more at a sitting at first, but not really any more volume throughout the day. LIke instead of a cup, I could eat a cup and a half, but then I would only be able to eat 3 times a day instead of 5........just an example.
Now I'm back to not being able to eat very much again. Worries me cuz I keep losing weight. I'm dreading looking at the scale on my next appt.
But a general rule is that you need to add about 300 calories during pregnancy for a healthy weight gain, so if she IS healthy, she needs to do that and make sure she's getting 100g of carbs a day (for healthy fetal brain development). Also, make sure she switches to a prenantal. It has the 1mg of folic acid in it that she'll need for the pregnancy as well as additional iron. She'll also need her labs done and have her OB work in conjunction with her surgeon to make sure she's getting the correct amount of vitamins in.
