Hi,

Please give me any comments on similar experiences.

I am 31 weeks pregnant and after being in the hospital during week 27 with lower back pain, which is now gone, I have had diarrhea.

My pre-pregnancy weight was 195, I entered the hospital at 209  during my 26th week. I gained an additional 15lbs of fluid, they pumped me up with the IV. Of course the 15lb was water weight.

I came home weighing 222. Within a week I was 207 and happy. Then came the diarrhea. Which has not stopped. They cannot do any more testing because of the baby. Therefore, I was told over the counter meds and try to hold out these last 9 or so weeks.

Anyway, I am down to 193lbs, not that I am complaining, the baby is healthy and growing fine, it's just me. My Dr. said that the baby will pull his food from me or my reserves, so he will be nourished. I just can't do #1 without #2. Help me.

I am sorry you are  dealing with the diarreah.  have you been having a brac diet to help you with the loose stools? Bread, rice, apple & cereal..... pasta I know all the stuff we are not suppose to eat when we had weight loss surgery.  but right now you are pregnant and your body will need the extra carbs. Yes the baby will pull from your reserves but you need to keep adding to your reserves so you don't end up lacking too much.

I lost lots of weight through out my pregnancy too and the baby was healthy but small when she was born.  Make sure to take all your vitamins constantly and know that this will only be temporarily.  I wonder what is causing your irratable bowels?  Are you adding more protein to your diet, make sure that you do even if it is in form of a healthy protein bar or drink.

Also write a diary of what you are eating so you can figure out what is causing your diarrhea.

Good luck and wishing you all the best.

I have increased my #2 business greatly for probably the last 3-4 weeks and sometimes it's constant diarrhea.  I haven't lost the weight like you, but have stayed the same (within 3 pounds) for about the last 8 weeks or so.  Like you, I am not complaining about that part.  My baby is doing well and although small, she is still within a good range.  The only other problem I have had and the #2 doesn't help is dehydration....so only advise I can give is to be sure you get in as much as you can!  Good luck!  Stacey

I got a bout of stomach flu clear back in Januaary and have had diarrhea until this last week when my iron levels went low and I have had to start supplementing. The extra iron hasn't made me constipated, I can still go and it's soft (TMI), but that has done it for me. I have heard that with pregnancy you can either be constipated or have issues with diarrhea, and that both are normal. I went from one to the other. Now it's better with the iron supplement, but I don't know what may have caused it. Have you had your iron levels checked? If any are low a supplement might help with both. Good luck!

Thanks ladies for all of the knowledgeable insight. I will put it to good use, especially with rehydrating myself with fluids.

I have not added any extra protein, or carbs, because I can't keep anything down.

And for all of you ladies that delivered, is a small baby common for bariactric patients? I will be 8 mos on Saturday, and most people do not know that I am pregnant. I just have a slight "fat girl" stomach.

I am waiting for a stranger to ask ; "when is the baby due?"

LOL!  That was so me.  Be careful what you ask for.  I was the exact same way with my carrying size.  Until about 34 weeks, then I just blew up, literally OVERNITE.  It looks like I have a beach ball under my dress.  I was wearing Lg size clothes for maternity clothes, not I am in 2xl dresses, becaue my stomach is huge!  I am not complaining, but it is life changing and takes a minute to get used to.  People stare, you waddle and life as you knew it changes over night.  I must admit, he loves seeing and touching my belly and is so proud of it NOW- I think it is a man thing!!

It will come and everybody will ask and some will even want to touch! :-)
