Thank you card etiquette

I was wondering what the normal time is to send thank you cards from a baby shower. One of my showers was last week and the baby isn't due until May 9th. Husband suggests doing a card with picture of the baby which wouldn't happen till??? maybe June...I think that seems tacky to wait that long, or is it normal? I had purchased some cards and started filling them out from the shower but then he said we should order a bunch that we can put pictures in etc. What have/are you doing in that area? Sorry to be so needy today. May not respond until tomorrow because I have an appt. in an hour but will look for your replies.

I didn't send Thank You's until after the baby was born.. which wound up being 3 months later *YIKES*.  I also sent the baby announcement/picture along with the thank you.

I plan on sending out thank yous within two weeks after my shower and then doing birth announcements when she arrives. I just feel that I get mad when people don't send me thank-yous for a long period so I should give people the courtesy that I want myself...but everyone if different!

If you feel comfortable waiting, then wait and do it the way Hubby suggested

I think etiquette would be to send the thank you's soon after your shower and then send out birth announcements when your baby is born. I on the other hand just got the last of my thank you's mailed for my Feb. 6th baby shower. I am terrible at thank you's only because I never have all of the addresses and I don't know who most of the people are because my husband is from a very small town and we get gifts from all over the place!! lol! It was the same way with our wedding too!

not that I'm the best with thank you cards, I waited 11 months to send out my wedding thank yous lol!  but i had my shower March 7 and the thank yous are going out this week coming up.  i hateeeee writing them out, mostly because i need to work really hard to keep my handwriting neat through 50 thank you cards, but I'd much rather do them before the baby gets here!

I think that Thank You's should probably go out now and then an announcement when baby arrives. I know they say that you have up to a year to send out wedding thank you's and I always thought that was a VERY long time. I think that they should be done within a month. My MOm was the Thank You police growing up - I always had to send them right away! lol I took our wedding thank yous on our honey moon and worked on them on the plane. I've received a few random baby gifts so far and already sent out the Thank Yous.

Hope that helps and good luck with the appt.

You have a year but go with your comfort zone.

I send thank yous asap because I actually think they are ridiculous and if I wait too long I just won't do them.

As you can see I'm late with the thank you to you for your replies. I appreciate the suggestions. I think I will do the thank you's now and then the birth announcements later.
