OT: Son's bedroom
Hi Everyone. I have been given the go ahead from my parents to repaint my son's bedroom that he sleeps in. We moved in almost 2 years ago after a ugly divorce so painting and all that stuff at the time was not an option. We had to accept it for the time being because everything was on such short notice.
At the time, my son's bedding was airplanes because he liked them. He has had this bedding since he started sleeping in a twin bed. So, he's 5 now, so I guess 3 years if not more. Anyway, he starts K-5 in August and feel like he has outgrown this bedding.
There are so many of you on this board that are extremely creative. I have zilch when it comes to that stuff. I'd like to really make this room his! I'm sure we will be here for several more years. Anyway, I don't want a "theme" per say, like race cars or transformers or anything like that, because he will eventually not like those anymore either. I want something for the long haul, but I also want to turn it into something he will like. He is all boy... race cars, transformers, camo stuff, motorcycles, tractors, legos, etc.
I just don't know what to do. I'm not the decorative type, so this stuff is just clueless to me. I really don't know what to do, but I know we are starting a new chapter in our lives and I want to be able to give him a room he would truly enjoy.
Thanks for helping out, if you can!

Fun! What about paiting his walls a mossy green color and putting the camo splotches up? That's even something that he could help with. You can still put up planes, or forest animals or whatever he is interested in at the time.
You could also do a bright color like an orange, red, blue, yellow or green and put racing stripes going either vertically or horizontally on the walls in some contrasting colors. That's not baby-ish but something that I think could grow with him for a while.
have fun!
Oh and Lowes and Home Depot have a lot of great ideas on their websites and in their sample books in the paint section.

Mom to two of the cutest boys on earth.
my little brother ran the gammet of room themes. When he was little it was Winnie the pooh. Then pokemon, race cars and he's 12 now and his room is more of a "boy themed" idk how else to explain it.
My mom painted the walls a steel gray color. She got red bed sheets and black comforter. She made the bed facing the TV so it looks like a day bed, and got big cushions that make it look like a couch during the day. There's a few race cars on the wall, some video game posters, a tv, dresser and computer. You could make the theme with like airplanes, neutral, changeable colors, you don't want to lock in a color he wont like in a few years. I dont know if any of that made sense but I like the idea of not going with one theme that can not change with him as he grows up.
that being said the nursery is being totally decked out with pink princess everything haha!

Great idea!!! I would love to do the princess theme for my daughter. Bad part is that she doesn't have her own room. Her and I share.... and let me tell you there is no room whatsoever for anything! Ugh... the life of singleness and not owning my own home. Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm going to check out HGTV and see what I can come up with. :)
