Ultrasound Question and Gender Party
Hello again ladies, quick question for you.....
I'm scheduled to go in for an ultrasound tomorrow. I just started week 20. I know the radiology tech doesn't actually read the results of the ultrasound, the doctor does afterward, but would she tell me if she suspected something was wrong? Are they allowed to do that? I just don't want to leave on cloud 9 only to go to my doctor's appointment next week and find that there was something abnormal in the ultrasound. I'm just curious. The pregnancy is going fine, but some faulty bloodwork in the beginning just has me ever so cautious. The doctor actually told me to expect a miscarriage over Christmas.
On a side note, I can't wait to find out what we're having! We're going to have the tech find out the gender tomorrow (if the little one cooperates), but we're not going to have her tell us. I'm going to have her write it down on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope. We're giving the envelope to a close friend who bakes cakes on the side (beautiful cakes!). She is going to make us a cake over the weekend. It will be gender neutral on the outside - cream colored fondant with little pastel colored "baby" shapes all over it (strollers, bottles, etc). I'm having her do a 3 layer round cake. She'll determine the color of the cake batter by our ultrasound results - pink or blue. We're having a family dinner on Sunday night and will cut into the cake for dessert. This way the entire family, including us, will all find out together! I can't wait! The only odd thing is that she will actually know what we're having before us! We plan to start on the nursery next weekend during spring break (my husband and I are both teachers).
Anyway, just curious about the ultrasound itself. I pray everything looks wonderful, but if there is any question about the baby's health, I'd prefer to know right away. Have a wonderful day ladies!

OMG! That is such a great way to share the news!!! I was so impatient I paid to have an ultrasound @ 17 weeks. (we have several places around here that do ultrasounds other then a dr's office) We were driving to see my family out of state and I wanted to share the good news with them in person - I wish I would have done something creative like that!!
I don't know what to tell you about the ultrasound though - praying for good results!
Hugs,
Erika

Wow! What a creative way to find out the news!!! I love that. As for the u/s tech...I think it really depends on the tech. I have found that some are more forthcoming than others. I think if they suspected something was wrong, they might call a doctor in that day. But like I said, it has depended on the tech for me.
Good Luck!

LOVEthe idea of the cake!THat is going to be so much fun!
AS for the ultrasound. Ionly ever see the tech, she told me once (Because Iasked) that the Dr will come in if she sees something abnormal. I'd just ask LOTSof questions.
Good luck tomorrow!Any hunches on the gender?
PS - I'd SO be eating dessert frist! lol

I LOVE the cake idea!!! How wonderful! You have more will power than me!
As for the tech- It has been my expereince that they will not say a word because they aren't allowed...and for some reason all the ultrasound techs with the exception of one were very rude, snotty and short with me....
I hope all goes well and your have a better experience than I ever did!

what a great idea!... when i went for my ultrasound... they couldnt really see any output from the aortic arch.... she said she will be right back and brought the dr in right then and there and explained to him what she saw... of course i was holding in my puke until he said ".. well there is no back flow back into the heart and you can see the flow from other vessles that are attached to the major vessel... so everything is fine..." then they rechecked me a few weeks later and they saw the outflow... it was just the way she was laying
When I went for my ultrasound, I asked a ton of questions. Many the tech could not answer for a couple of reasons 1. The baby was laying in a position that she couldn't see everything. 2. She isn't trained to really read the ultrasound.
Because of that, I was a nervous wreck. Just be prepared to be there awhile because they take all kind of shots. I was nervous because they couldn't see everything. We asked the doctor about it and he said it was normal to not get all the shots in one visit so don't get nervous if they don't see everything they need to see everything.
I hope you get a good report. I LOVE the way you are finding out. Very creative. I wish I was that creative.
