Help, my gas is killing me (sounds funny, but it really hurts)
Hi All,
I would love some input from you on what you do to aleviate gas issues. I don't mind passing it, that's not embarrassing to me. But it is actually getting to be REALLY painful. I was up until 3am the other day because of the pain. I talked to the doctor and she told me to stop my vitamins for a week and try miralax and see if that helps. In the meantime, what do I do about the pain. Gas-X helps a little, but it doesn't make it go away. Has anyone tried Beano? Is that OK while we're pregnant? Any other ideas?

Hey Tina.
I'm dealing with the same issue (I think...at least I hope it's gas) and I was wondering where your pain is located? Mine is actually in my upper tummy and I'm trying to make sure it's gas and not something more serious but gas-x seems to help pretty quickly when the pain comes on. I've also noticed that it's definitely worse if I'm more constipated than usual so keeping yourself regular is probably a big priority.
Sorry I didn't have some advice, but I feel for you :(

Ah man! I am sorry you're hurting as well. My pain goes back and forth between my upper belly and my lower belly. I think if it can't find a way out the bottom (cuz I'm bound up) then it moves back up and tries to escape that way. But that's just my guess. I hope you feel better too!

Yep, I still got the old gall bladder and was wondering if that might be the issue. But pain definitely goes back and forth from my lower belly to my upper belly until it finds a way to let itself out. So, I know it could be the gall bladder, but my doc didn't say anything about that. If I am still having issues at my next appointment, I will mention it to her.

I would mention it. The first GB attack I had I thought it was killer gas pains too. My pain moved around too, and I was very gassy during it. The second one I had I had more concentrated pain where my GB is. I would deff get it looked at!!

Hi Tina,
I used Beano and other digestive enzymes my whole pregnancy. (And Probiotics) I couldn't find anything saying they were bad -- in fact they don't really get absorbed (like gas-x) they just work in the stomach / intestine.
I know to get rid of gas I always had to lay on my stomach.... but while pregnant I couldn't do that. Moving around helped. Hands and knees helped. (Sounds silly).
I know the pain you're feeling!! I'm sorry you're going through it.
(BTW -- I can't believe your vitamins are contributing. I wouldn't stop them if I were you.... )

I think she wants me to stop taking the vitamins because of the iron. Iron can really upset your tummy and bind you up, which can make gas much worse. It always has done that to me, so I don't take as much as I should. I don't think stopping them for a week is a huge deal so I'll do what she says, but I'll start right back up after the week is over and see if that makes a difference.
I totally understand about laying on your tummy. That's what I always did, along with a heating pad from the microwave, both of which we're really not supposed to do. So my normal measures are not really an option.
The Gas-X seemed to work pretty well tonight (I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get a good night's sleep).

Good question. I'd like to know everyone's answers! I just deal with the pain and I had it last night to the point that I thought I was about to give birth. It HURT. But I think mine is because I was constipated and with the gas building up behind all that build up......equaled PAIN! I don't take anything for it. Just deal, but sometimes that's hard!
I would have thought it was my gallbladder because the pain feels similar to that, but I've had mine out already. If you still have your gallbladder I wouldn't rule out that being a contributing factor. They do tend to act up during pregnancy.
My pain is always upper stomach, I'm not sure if it's possible to have gallbladder problems even after you've had one out..I'll have to look into that (for my sake lol), but it does sound like yours is a lot gas. I've noticed that lying on my side after taking the gas-x sometimes helps it move around. You could try that (sorry can't be more help). I've had two pre-op pregnancies and this has been far the worst as far as gas goes...I'm a factory lol.
