Will I have to have a C-Section?

I was reading an article the other day... that most women who have had WLS will "more than likely" have to have a c-section. Is this true? I hope not! I am cautious about what I read online so that why I am asking this question. I had my daughter 2 years ago natural with no drugs. I kinda wanted  to do the same with baby #2.

I don't see any reason why?

I had a repeat post surgery but only because my water broke, no active labor and my doc wouldn't induce a repeat section.

I think you'll be fine as long as you progress through labor well.

The article was saying that extreme pushing and squatting can cause problems...I wish, that I could find the article again.

This is not true.  There is no reason we would have additional problems with pushing.  I was told that there was a slight chance the baby could mess up the bypass during pregnancy by being pushed up against the stomach, but your organs can get messed up during pregnancy without having bypass just because there is a small amount of room in your abdomen. But nothing about a c-section.

That's great to hear!!  Actually, my surgeon  mentioned something about being there when the baby was being born just in case if something happened. Thanks for the info!

I don't think there's any foundation to that ... I had a vaginal delivery with very little intervention. There's no reason you should accept a C Section just because a Dr. said so ... you are totally capable of an unmedicated vaginal delivery! :-)

I seriously doubt it.  I know LOTS of post op moms who delivered naturally.  I had 2 c-sections but it was due to failure to progress and then a repeat...totally not WLS related.

Relax...you'll be fine!

There is NO reason that your bypass would cause you to need a C-section. It's a line of BS. One of the first things that my surgeon told me was DO NOT let any OB tell you that you will need a CS based on the fact that you had RNY. He is a top notch surgeon and the head of the department. I'd put my life in his hands a thousand times over and do whatever he told me to do.

Here's to your un-medicated, au-natural delivery!

I have said it once, but I will say it again.  Vagina and stomach......not connected!

I will even go a step further to say that I have had 5 abdominal surgeries (all related to GB), have weakened stomach muscles, have (or had I don't even know if it's still there at my last Dr. appointment it was) a double hernia and I was able to have my twins and my daughter vaginally.

I had no drugs with my daughter.   I had no issues pushing.

The women on this board seem to have very normal pregnancies and deliveries post-WLS.

We are pretty "normal".  We just need to make the right health adjustments for our particular weight loss surgeries and the baby (ies) we are carrying.  Women who haven't had WLS have to take care of their bodies and look out for their babies too!

That article is BS.  You will find doctor's and even patients who without consideration automatically schedule these c-sections.  It is all the trend with celebrities.  Women schedule their births to avoid the last couple of weeks of pregnancies when all of the stomach muscle damage is done.

Good luck to you.  You will do it "natural" again if that is the way that it is meant to be.  There are no guarantees.  If you or the baby are in danger whether you've had WLS or not, a c-section is a life saver.  My niece and her baby went through a horrible delivery.  Angie was stuck in the birth canal and came out all bruised with a broken collar bone.  My niece had all the the blood vessels in her face burst.  They are beautiful now, but  she would have been better off had the doctor intervened.  My niece never had WLS :).

Best,
Leila
