Formula question

Here's the thing... I remember when I first had WLS this kind of discussion around protein drinks (formula being a baby-protein drink).  Not only does protein grow bacteria FAST -- from hands touching the nipples, bottles not being totally santitary, bacteria in water... but protein starts to break down.

For the sake of post-op nutrition the common theme on OH is to not pre-make protein drinks (drink within the hour).  Otherwise the protein value goes down....

I don't premake bottles for Cooper -- I send the powder in those little containers and bottles of water and have his babysitter mix it up.  I do the same at night time.   (Just dump and shake)

BUT... I do admit that lately if Cooper starts a bottle and drinks half of it I will still try to give it to him an hour or 1.5 hours later after his mouth has touched it, unrefridgerated.  (No longer than that.... )

I'm sure if your bottles and hands are clean and the bottle is in the fridge it won't hurt him if it's kept 36 hours.... but I'd worry about how much nutrition he's getting from it.  A lot of protein drink powders (For bariatric patients) have a note about using it within 30-60 minutes after mixing it or the protein starts to break down.

Now I'm repeating myself!

Rowan is so cute, by the way!  I love his laughing!!

That makes sense - the protein breaking down. If he has had some from a bottle of formula but didn't fini**** I'll only keep it a couple of hours (in the fridge) and then it gets dumped. I follow the daycare lady's rule - she's been taking care of babies under 1 for 19 years - she'll warm a bottle only twice, no matter what is in it and she's never had a child get sick from it. Wish I didn't have to deal with the formula at all, but I've just never made enough milk.

I love Coopers scootching videos! Rowan hasn't figured that out yet, but he's working on it - he just scooches around in a circle right now!

That's how Cooper started - in circles and then one day he just took off.... it's the dangest thing!  It was like there was no "in between".

I'd love him to crawl "normal" but he has no interest in being on his tummy now that he's mobile in an upright position.

Having a "mobile" baby changes everything!

We've been practicing tummy crawling a lot, and I think Rowan will get it in the next week or so. he's starting to be able to get his knees under himself and rock back and forth for a few seconds at a time. He still MUCH prefers standing and he starting to try to "cruise" around our coffee table.

I think throwing it away after 24 hours is crazy.  I would send it back to daycare the next day.  If it came home again, then I would dump it.   I'm a little bit more laid back about things like that than most Mommies are though.    Hannah has survived me though and Noah is hanging in there lol.

remember breast milk can last longer than formula made up anyway.  I say if you have a left over bottle of formula, make it the FIRST bottle the next day and use breastmilk later in the day.

but I personally strictly hold to the 24 hour rule myself if I have leftover formula (which right now doesn't happen since he only gets a bottle or 2 a week really as emergency rations while i"m in class
