spina bifida
Damn. Nothing like dragging out the torture of the unknown.
I'll be in the States on leave during that time, so I may be slow on seeing your post, depending on my internet availability...but know that your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Mom to Khaled
I'm sorry I don't have personal experience, but my very close first cousin had a daughter with Spina Bifida. Hers was so bad they actually had to do surgery in utero in order for the baby to survive birth. She had numerous surgeries and didn't start really walking until she was around 5 yrs old. But, she is the most beautiful little girl and so smart- she is such a joy! Although things have been difficult, she is doing great now. She had to use a special walker as she learned and wear leg braces. Now that she's nearing seven she can walk with a type of crutch attached to her arm. She is really good at crawling and climbing to get things that she needs. I saw her today at my baby shower, and she is doing so much better. Sitting in a chair, you wouldn't know she had any of those problems. They say that she will continue to make progress and may eventually walk with only small leg braces that can be hidden under clothes. Although it is a bumpy road, it is possible for the baby to have a full and meaningful life. Like I said, my cousin's daughter is so much fun to be around and is so beautiful. Hopefully someone else may help you with more details. Good luck!
