My husband and I are tryign to get pregnant and I am trying to start making some changes in what I take. Like I take rpenatal vitamins instead of my usual ones. I came across somethign that said we shouldn't take Prilsoec when pregnant. What is the alternative?

I did call my surgeon's office; still waiting to ehar from them so I thought I'd ask some veterans :)

Prilosec is a class "C" according to www.safefetus.com.  I took Nexium through for both of my post op pregnancies.  It is a class "B".  Of course, it isn't near as inexpensive.

Funny, that's what I am reading everywhere online but my surgeon just told me to keep taking it. I think I'll avoid it till my visit with the ob-gyn and ask her.

I was taking Prilosec before and while I was pregnant and didn't know it. When I called my bariatric doctors they told me to stop taking it and just used Tums.

So I bought a bunch of different flavors and while the first month and a half I needed the Tums almost daily, it's really slowed down completely and the need for the Tums is almost non-exsistant now! I need it maybe once in a great while.

So I'd switch to Tums, since they do have the added benefit of the calcium too.

RNY-ers don't absorb the type of calcium found in Tums.

Pepcid. Or the generic Famotidine. I've had lots of ulcers so IHAVE to keep taking during pregnancy. It's a Class B drug, generally considered safe in pregnancy.
