Finished packing my hospital bag today...

Ok, I'm just over 36 wks now and decided to pack my hospital bag and one for the baby.  Here's what I have so far.  This'll be my 3rd kid, so I have a pretty good idea of what to expect and what I'll need.   But if you have any suggestions, feel free to add what you think is good to bring or have.

I'm bringing the breast pump because I used it last time and it helped to bring my milk in (quicker I think).  Babies don't suck the greatest when they are first born and that sucking helps your body know to bring the milk on, so the pump works really great for this.  I would let my daughter nurse for 15 mins on each side and then would pump for 5-7 mins right after that.  My milk came in the 2nd day after I had her, while I was still in the hospital!!  It took like 4-5 days for my milk to come in with my first baby, so that is a big improvement!

iPod
magazine
chapstick
robe
slippers
breast pump (I have a Medela Pump In Style, won't have to use the hospital one this time!)
toiletries (comb, toothbrush/paste, facewash, etc.... including my vitamins, CC)
nursing bra and nursing pads
my own pillow from home (to be used AFTER I deliver, don't want blood on it)
Boppy pillow (to help with nursing baby)
socks
kind of iffy on bringing a nightgown, they do provide one at the hospital....
digital camera and camcorder
panties (I know they provide those big stretchy panties and those monster pads post delivery, but I wanna have some just in case and to wear over the stretchy panties)
my glasses (I wear contacts normally and can't have them in during delivery, plus I'll use these for night feedings when I wake up to feed him)

and I'll pack a change of clothes the night before we go and bring makeup in the toiletry bag too (wanna look decent in pictures, lol)

What are you packing or what's been useful to you?

I also brought the purple BIG always pads with wings. I know they give you some pads but they were awful and I bled over the top and back. The purple pads soaked up everything and no bleed outs. TMI! Good Luck!!!

Thanks for posting your list. I was starting to think about it in the back of my head earlier today (I'm only 30 weeks), actually at 2am when I was up with a back ache lol.

Do you pack a change of clothes for hubby and his deoderant / toothbrush too?

I was thinking that I'd need my cell phone and charger, and was considering my laptop - not sure if my hospital has wi-fi or not though.

yeah I have a separate bag (the diaper bag) that I'll be bringing along for the baby too. That'll have 2 pairs of pj's, 3 outfits, mittens, binkies, and a blanket. I'm pretty sure they have provided the diapers, wipes, and a few receiving blankets in the hospital when we've had our other two kids. I've already registered at the hospital, so we're all set with them to go in. I'll be bringing both the camera chargers too and hubby will have his cell with him, so I don't need to bring mine.

I have a scrunchie for my hair in the toiletry bag cuz I sleep with it up every night anyways and will go to the hospital with my hair up too. I am just going to have hubby bring snacks for himself and maybe a magazine or crossword puzzle (something to keep busy with), but no overnight bag. We live like 10 mins from the hospital and he's going to go home at night to put the 2 kids in bed and relieve my parents of babysitter duty so they can go home each night while I'm gone. So he'll be sleeping at home. He's slept at the hospital with the other 2 kids, but I think this time he'll just sleep at home. He might as well enjoy 2 night of good sleep before me and the baby come home!! LOL

I also am bringing my Udder Cover nursing cover, that'll help when I used the breast pump and then also when I'm nursing the baby and we have people in the room or just for privacy (when nurses are coming in and out).

Thanks for the tips about the breastpumps. I would never have thought of that and want to be able to breastfeed as soon as possible...In fact, good ideas from everyone...I'll start my list right now!

*Baby book (I get the nursery to do the hand and feet prints in the book and then I write down the delivery specifics and the baby's stats. Also, if people come to visit (I didn't feel like visitors last time) I get them to sign the baby book while they're there)
*Outfit for bringing baby home in
*Baby caps (I don't like the bloody gooey one being on my baby for the 3-4 days I'll have to be there)
*Baby bag (I bring home the diapers they give at the hospital)
*Neosporin (for when my boys are circumcized. Won't have to worry about that this time, but it's nice to have if you're having a boy because they don't always provide it for you when you're there)
*Cell phone to call out of area relatives
*My favorite pads cuz I hate the hospital's. I use the long urine control pads after I have my babies. I usually lose control of my bladder so I want to be prepared.

Thanks for the idea of bringing the breast pump. I didn't have one when I went into the hospital to have my last one, but I have one this time so I'm bringing it.
