So i have decided that i am going to have a home water birth with this baby! Which i am SO excited and passionate about, but everyone that finds out about it is shocked/appalled, and says......... CAN YOU DO THAT SINCE YOUVE HAD THE GB?? even one of the midwives ive talked to about it has mentioned the surgery as an obsticle that i may have (she doesnt do homebirths so im not taking that as sound medical advice)

So im wondering are there any mama's out there who have had a water birth, Assisted, or unassisted??

Thanks =)

Personally, I wouldn't have a home birth but that is me. If you want to and can, more power to you. I don't think the surgery would really be a problem. I know someone that had a water birth and she said it was great.

I wouldn't personally do it, but more power to you.  With that said, the next time someone asks you can you do that because you had GB, please respond with the following:

SINCE WHEN IS MY VAGINA ATTACHED TO MY STOMACH?

Then just wait for the blank stare.

I wouldn't do a home birth cuz I don't want the mess...LOL. I did consider a water birth, but the thought of sitting in all the stuff that comes out of me seems really gross. But the idea of how relaxing it would be otherwise is very intriguing to me.

Good luck! You'll have to let us know how it goes.

My comment is this rto do what you and your midwife agree upon based on your health.

My personal feelings is why not have a water birth at a hospital with your midwife. Then, if there is a urgent need (baby, hemorrhage, you, etc), there will be an MD available to assist immediately. You still get the water birth you are wanting but you will have the immediate health-care available if it is warranted.

I have not had a HB.  I would not have a HB due to some of my birth experiences.  BUT I believe every woman has a right to birth her baby how she wants.

But I do know lots of women who have.  I know women who have had UACB and ACB at home both in and out of water.  I know women whose husband catch the baby.

I would run far away from a MW that does not know that you gastro-intestional tract and stomach are not connected to your birth canal.

What specific questions do you have?

You can rent a birthing tub for in your home.  You can order birth kits online. Many birth kits contain all the sheets/pads etc. to contain all the mess so you just throw it away and wash your towels.

There are also birth centers that are usually more natural than a hospital as it relates to walking through labor, laboring postions, ball usage, birth position and so on.  You could see if the have them near your area.

Your profile says Fairfield CA - are you still in that area?  I can ask for a competent MW referral for you and PM it to you if you would like.

God Bless! Jen

im pretty positive that im just going to stay home, no birthing center lol. I will have my hospital aware of my birth however so that if there are any complications i can be rushed in.
But thank you for the offer!

I am going with a midwife this time 'round
I'd LOVE to have a home birth but my last baby got stuck so I dont want take any chances.
So For good reason Im not doing at home. If I didnt experience that Id def be having this one at home!
As for the water part.... Me personally no lol
Only because while I was in labour with my first two The water made me sick to my stomach.

Gastric Bypass is not an obsticle.
Ive heard so many people on here say.. you had surgery on your stomach, not your uterus LOL
Too Funny!
