Do you...?
I don't wash ours. I got tons of advice before Ethan was born. "You must was all the baby's clothes separately." "You must use Dreft." And on and on. I have always washed his stuff with ours, and I don't use Dreft. I would have if washing them normally would have irritated his skin, but I figured we should at least try the normal way. And I agree about the germs. I want him to be healthy, and that means he has to be exposed to germs. I totally respect people who choose to do differently, and maybe I'm too lax, but it works for us!
I washed all the towels, washcloths, sheets, onsies and recieving blankets and of course the things that came from 2nd hand stores. Now all his cute little outfits I didn't wash before hand b/c I didn't want them to get messed up before he even got to wear them once. I guess if you have a history of sensitive skin it may be a good thing to wash everything but it will most likely be trial and error just according to have your Lo's skin is. P&PT's.
I have done research... asked all my girlfriends who are mom's and even asked my doctor and my nurse.
All said the same thing... they washed the clothes, blankets, sheets... one you don't know the cir****tances that the items were packaged... you don't know the chemicals, and the clothes are so stiff...
I have washed everything so far. I did use All Free and Clear... however once she is here.. we will try her with Tide and see how she does because that is what we use.
My baby girl will be a Tom Boy... She will get dirty, play in mud, and be exposed to many things... including our dogs and since we camp alot she will be around alot of different tress and etc...
I dont see myself being overly protective or crazy. Just think that since I dont know where the clothes came from and who has touched them and what they were in or around... its better to be safer than sorry.

Hee hee, just be prepared you might not GET the Tomboy you want. I am the opposite of girly, and I swore I would have a girl like me, but I got one who screams if she gets muddy, won't wear a skirt that doesn't "twirl" and likes to run around the house in a tutu. When she came to me and asked me to braid her hair, I had to watch a video on youtube to figure out how to do it.

Yes and it's because I used to work retail way back when. High end retail stores are even worse!
If you think that just because something looks brand new hanging on a rack with a nice little tag hanging off it, think again.
I once had a customer try on a thong and a bra and walk out of the fitting room to show me. I'm thinking to myself, lady you are purchasing that crack floss because I'm not touching it to hang it back up after you had it up your ass. Good thing I can sell ice to an Eskimo because she bought it. Obviously a little baby isn't wearing a thong, but let's say a baby pukes, pees, or poops all over a onesie. The parent returns it and you buy it thinking it's new and put it on your baby unwashed.
Germs are one thing, but people are skeevie and downright nasty and filthy.

I do, but I AM a freak about chemicals and what my kids are exposed to (it's one of the biggest reasons I cloth diaper, I hated the idea of all those chemicals being right against their skin). Also, most kids pj's are fire retardent and are sprayed with stuff before they are shipped, if you don't wash them first it is going directly on their skin.
I have my own ideas of why so many kids have increased allergies, but that is a whole other story LOL

I wa**** all, for the same reason others mentioned, skin issues. Rowan is very fair skinned like me and I've had skin reactions to various detergents, so I'm careful with him. I use bio-kleen detergent and unscented fabric softener sheets on his stuff. besides, once you wa**** you know what size it REALLY is. Some things have really shrunk a LOT in the wash and if I had waited for him to wear it when it fit him in his unwashed state, he would have only worn it once!

Mom to two of the cutest boys on earth.
i would wash them before putting them on the baby. One reason I say this is because I actually saw someone dig in their nose then handle some items. I was totally grossed out. I'm sure it happens, but when I saw it with my own eyes, that let me know that everything needs to be washed before wearing. Ewwww, ewww, ew!
