Sad news today

Hello, I was told today that my baby has spina bifida. I am going to be sent to shands in gainsville to get checked also. I ask that you guys pray for me and my baby because I have no idea. Anybody else been diagnosed with this and it not be true. A little freaking out. Any info would be helpful.

There are widely varying levels of spina bifida. I have it and had no idea until I pulled a muscle in my back at 18. It's not a death sentence, not even a major disability sentence necessarily :)

Sending thoughts and prayers our your way! If this was a result of the quad screening (I think that's what it's called) and not an amnio it is just a screening - not a definitive answer!! Keep your chin up and we'll be praying for you and your baby!

It was the ultra sound. It was freaky and scary. He says that skin was covering the area where the opening is sopose to be. I don;t fully accept this.

was this the 2nd test or do you go back again? Hang in there! Remember how tiny those parts are that they are looking at! I hope that they are wrong or the SB is VERYmild!

this was the 2nd trimester ultrasound that goes with the blood test. I am not claiming it. My doctor says i am 19wks pregnant they say 18 wks. He says the skin is covering the spina bifida and the baby is moving there legs and arms and that he saw the bladder and that is a good sign.

Hello...

I had a cousin who was told this also during an u/s and it turned out to be nothing... She was scared to death too.... I understand that you are scared but just keep the faith... Go have the 2nd testing done and see what they find... As one of the posters said already, there are varying degrees of it so it may not be too serious at all... I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for sure...
