Pregnant after hernia repair?
I have had two hernia repairs with mesh, and one of them was HUGE. I am currently pregnant and wondering if anyone here has been pregnant after a hernia repair with mesh? I am wondering how it will be near the end and if I will have trouble. My hernia repairs were pretty high (up near my sternum) so I think I will be ok, but I just wondered if anyone had any experience with this.

I had a hernia repair with mesh in 2006. The hernia was quite large, about the size of a junior football, and like yours located below near sternum. I was pregnant with my first baby in 2008. I didn't show quite as much, but it was my first baby and also because I carried him high and more under the mesh. The only problem I experienced as the baby grew was sometimes feeling pain at the edge of the mesh--almost like a sawing/cutting feeling. it would stop if I changed positions and/or shifted the baby. It didn't do any damage and doctors said it was nothing to worry about.
During that pregnancy, I developed an umbilical hernia; it slipped out under the mesh. They opted not to repair it since we planned to have another baby. It has also grown to the size of a junior football but poses no danger since it's an umbilical hernia. Looks like I have a huge baby head or bottom sticking way out. It--and any others I might develop with this pregnancy-- will be repaired after this baby is born.
Good luck!
