Considering the Duondenal Switch (DS) - How did the DS affect your pregnancy?
Hi!
I haven't had any kids yet - pre or post op.
You might want to head on over to the DS board - www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/a,messageboard/board_id,5357/ and post this there - you will probably get more responses!!
I do know of at least 3 peeps on there that have had post DS babies and they were all healthy and are all doing well. I don't have any details though, so sorry about that. But I am sure those women would love to share the detail with you.
I was assured by my surgeon that I could have a healthy pregnancy and baby after the DS - provided I waited long enough to be out of the rapid weight loss phase. Otherwise I would not have had my DS b/c I want children.
Good luck!

Hi!
I'm almost 18 weeks pregnant. 1 year post-op DS.
I know two things:
1) I need more vitamins. I've got to supplement more heavily now.
BUT
2) Baby is fine. It's taking everything it needs, growing at a normal, healthy rate.
So yes, the malabsorption can suck, but your baby can be just FINE. The supplementation is mostly for yourself.
Also, just fyi, I completely credit my ability to even get pregnant to my DS. I don't think I was very fertile at all 100 pounds ago.

I cannot answer all of your questions, as I am pretty newly pregnant, but so far so good.
I got pregnant 4 months post DS (I do not recommend at all), but I did, and I expect to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby!
I am following all the rules, taking all my suppliments and having regular blood draws. I upped my protein intake and am eating whole grain and complex carbs to ensure rapid weight loss (Which I never had to begin with...my loss has been slow and steady!)....but I do need the carbs to ensure a healthy pregnancy, so that is what I do!
The DS is definitely not a deal breaker as far as pregnancy goes....just follow your surgeon's guidelines and wait the appropriate amount of time, take all of your suppliments every single day, consume all your required protein, and I am sure all will be just fine!
