Thinking about getting pregnant....
Before I had GB I did not want to have kids. I knew it would not be healthy at all with the weight I was at and honestly I didnt feel like I would be able to be a good mom. I had my bypass 6/2/09 and have lost over 140 pounds and am just 25 from my goal weight. Im at the point where i loose 3-5 pounds a month so its coming off slow. I know that they say wait 18 months but right now I feel really healthy and am ready. Is there anyone out there that got pregnant prior to the 18 month mark and it was planned?
There are plenty of people that get pregnant before the recommended time and had healthy babies - does that mean that it is the best idea - NOPE! It's best to wait until your weight has stabilized for a while (my surgeon says 6 months) and your labs are good. I am over 3 years out and 30 weeks pregnant and let me tell you that while this pregnancy has been fairly uneventful I have realized just how hard having a baby is on your body. The better health you are going into it the better off you and baby will be! I am having trouble getting in enough calories and basically eat all day long. I've only gained 3 pounds so far.
What I did when I thought that I was ready was set up an appt with each my nutritionist, surgeon and OB to get their OK to TTC.
Good luck!

i am trying to get pregnant now myself i have been taking provera and when i start my cycle i will be taking clomid the fertility pill i am 18months out now myself i wanted to get pregnant earlier myself but it got put on hold and now i feel like my body is ready and so do my dotors. i want to wish u luck with trying just make sure your levels r right for u and the baby. plus i started taking prenantal vits ahead of time to just get my body ready.
My surgeon said to wait a year to 18 months to TTC. My weight came off and steadied itself very quickly. I stopped losing at around 9-10 months post op and was very happy with my weight. I conceived a little over a year post op. I actually got pregnant 7 months post op but had a miscarriage. I would say, since you are still losing pretty steadily (3-5 per month is still pretty good) you should at least wait until the 12 month point. I know it's hard to wait. But I agree with Liz, that pregnancy requires a lot from your body. Ultimately it's your decision, but you would only need to wait 3 mor months to get to the year point which isn't too bad.
Good luck with your decision!

I would talk with your surgeon about how you are feeling, he/she may agree! Good luck either way!

I'd say since you're still losing - and you've done such a fantastic job of it so far - get the most out of your surgery and lose that last little bit. You're only a few months away from being at goal at the rate you're going, then a few months to make sure you're stabilized and that your labs are good...and by the end of this year, you could be on the way.
Hang in there...you've come this far...fini**** up! Good luck. I hope to be reading about your BFP by the end of this year!
