Worried after first ultrasound
So I went in for my first OB appt. I ended up having to have a ultrasound done and I should be around 7-8 weeks however, the fetus is showing only 5-6 weeks. To top it off there is a fibroid located under the fetus and there is bleeding on the ultrasound above the fetus. My doctor told me that this increases the chances of misscariage to high risk. The part that is confusing to me is that I have had no issues with spotting, no cramping, my cervix is nice and closed according to him, and the fetal heartbeat was 113 bpm which is a great heart rate at that age. I also informed him that my last period was almost two weeks early and normally I am very regular which to me could justify the two week difference on where the baby is measuring as I did not get a positive result on my test when the 28 days was up from my last period. It was about 32 days before I got a postive. Any ideas? I am really worried. He pretty much made is sound like I was going to misscarry. I have to go in two weeks from now to have another scan done to see how things are progressing, but he acted like I wouldn't even make it to then because he said if I start having bleeding that it would be heavy for a few days and taper off. I had a misscarriage 8 years ago at 12 weeks and had a D/C which he said that I should not need.
I am now stressed because I am worried I will not make it another 2 weeks before the next scan. Anyone had something similar?

Thank you! It is so frustrating because the baby itself looks fine yet they are telling me that I am high risk to miscarry. If everything is fine in two weeks and the scan goes ok I am thinking of switching doctors. He was very odd and had no clue what the lap band was. He told me I would have malabsorbition which I informed him was incorrect. Had no clue how they put saline in to it, was in awe of my port when he felt it in my stomach. I know he is not a WLS doctor but I felt like I was doing the educating and not the doctor!
I'm sorry to hear this is going on. I would for sure suggest a new doc after the next scan. Possibly even ask your WLS doc if they know of a good OB for you or at least one that knows a little something about your band. I'm sure you can't be the first or only person to have a baby after WLS in your area.
I pray that all goes well with your next visit and that the baby is small just because you aren't as far along as you thought.

You sound a little like me in the beginning. I had the bleeding though which lasted for about a week or two and was put on bed rest for 3-4 weeks. They did a scan and found out I had some fibroids right beneath the fetus and the bleeding was coming from above the fetus. They basically told me the same thing with giving me all the information about miscarriaging, etc. If you werent considered high risk before and you are now, I'm not sure why they didn't put you on bed rest. They may be waiting for you to bleed to decide to act further if you still have the heartbeat and all. I'm not a doctor, but I just wanted you to hear that my story sounds similar. I am now 6.5 mos. along and due May 16. Jakob appears to be doing well and is kicking me all day long. Hope this helps somewhat.
336lbs 6/19/06 - 198 lbs - 6/19/10 138 lbs gone forever!!!
We have our miracle: Jakob Makhi born 4-15-10; 4 lbs. 10 oz. 22" long.
I just wanted to offer my support, I haven't haven't been in your situation before. I did have a miscarriage at 11 weeks but n ever had any signs that it was coming.
Many OB's don't know much about WLS unfortunately. I have been my own advocate all along and second guess anything I Don't think sounds right. Your Dr does sound like he has no clue but that doesn't mean he isn't a great OB. IF you work hand in hand with your surgeon's office you'll be fine. Labs every 8 weeks, a different form of the gestational diabetes test.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I have a fibroid in my uterus right now. The Dr. found it during my 8 week ultrasound. I did have a TINY bit of spotting at 6 weeks, but it was most likely due to an irritated cervix. I did not, however, have any visible bleeding on ultrasound. I know that must be really scary for you to hear. I can't even imagine. And so far, the fibroid hasn't caused any problems and they usually don't. (I'm praying mine doesn't!) This is my 9th pregnancy (5th child) and I've never had any visible bleeding on ultrasound, just had several losses early on like around 5 & 6 weeks due to a short luteal phase and low progesterone levels, most likely. I'd probably freak myself if the Dr. told me I had bleeding on ultrasound. MAYBE, (hopefully) it's just old blood and it will reabsorb and cause you no problems.

I had an issue with my 3rd one where I thought I was 7 1/2 weeks (cuz there was only 1 date of conception, just like my current pregnancy) but when they did the ultrasound, he was only measuring like 6 weeks or something and there was no heartbeat. They said I either wasn't as far along as we thought, or it wasn't a viable pregnancy. I was SCARED. I came back a week later for a repeat ultrasound and sure enough, a 7 week pregnancy and a heartbeat! He's now a happy, healthy 6 year old. Implantation is just SO unpredicatable as well as fertilization and all that jazz. You never can quite be sure when exactly it happens and sometimes we're not as far along as we think. Hopefully, that is what is happening in your case.
I truly hope and pray that everything is ok with your baby and that the next ultrasound shows a well developed baby with NO bleeding! Just take it easy, try not to stress (that's not easy) and let us know how your next ultrasound goes!

I am so sorry you have to go through this!
Here is my thoughs....if you do not really care for this OB, then mabye switch now to another one and get another opinion and scan sooner rather than wait the agonizing 2 weeks. If you are going to switch him anyway, sooner is better than later in my opinion. Why endure the hoepfully unnecessary stress and wait two weeks?
I pray he is just being overly pessimistic, and all turns out fine!!!!!
