That I am pregnant. I am only 7 months out from surgery. I went to my nutritionist today. She is going to put a plan together for me.She said I need 1200 calories. Right now I am only eating about 700-900 calories a day. What do you guys think?? Please help me.  I am going to the OB on Monday (3/15). He has not seen me since I had the surgery done. I was doing infertility with him because I would not get pregnant. I am shocked because my ob tired for 3 years to get my pregnant and nothing happen. Now since I lost 125 lbs, I am pregnant. I am so happy but I know it is not going to be easy.

Congratulations!!

And I think 1,200 calories is way too low. I think you should shoot for more like 1,800 calories. You're already going to probably be losing weight during the pregnancy as it is and then on top of it you need an extra 300 calories a day. But not 300 in addition to what you're already eating, but 300 in addition to what a NORMAL caloric intake would be.

Also, PLEASE add some good complex carbs, multi grain etc., back into your diet. You need about 100g of carbs a day to keep your body out of ketosis. Ketosis is very bad for brain development and can cause neural tube defects. Also, make sure you're taking a prenatal vitamin because of the extra folic acid and added iron it has. Continue to take your calcium CITRATE plus vitamin D. I take about 1,260 mg a day of that. Also, continue your B-12 and get your labs done to be sure that you aren't deficient on anything going into the pregnancy.

Good luck and I hope you have a happy, healthy pregnancy!

Congrats and welcome! I am two years out so that might make a difference. That being said my nutritionist said to stay at 1200 for the first trimester then just add an extra 300 calories after that. Honestlyfor me? I am so sick I eat what goes down and drink what goes down and I don't worry about it. Good luck!

Congratulations! I agree with some of the other posters. 1200 calories seems really low. For now it might be OK, but in your 2nd trimester you will need at least 1800. And again ADD CARBS!!!

Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months.

Thank you Ladies. I had my labs done in Jan. I was low in vitamin A which I am taking extra vitamin  A. Everything else came back normal. It feels like I am always eating. I am going to see my nutritionist every 5 weeks to make sure I am getting in the right amount of calories.
