Hello all :) I haven't been on here in a while... just had my son on 02/12/10.
I wanted to ask if any of you have any experience with surgery and breastfeeding? I am having my tummy tuck on 04/14. I am mostly concerned about how pain meds are going to affect breastfeeding my son.
Thank you

I'm not breastfeeding, but with my csection AND my TT they released me on Tylenol 3's.  Hopefully someone with experience will be able to give more info.

I just had my TT on friday.  Do you have someone to take care of your son while you are recovering?  You are going to need it.

I had to have my tonsils removed 8 1/2 years ago when I was breastfeeding my son. My doctor was more concerned with the anesthesia meds passing through to the milk then the pain meds. I pumped & dumped for a couple of days after surgery and then resumed breastfeeding just fine.
They had me on a liquid pain med, I think it was something with codeine. I also had codeine after all three of my c-sections and breastfed with no problems.

I imagine you will have to pump and dump for at least 24 hours after surgery.  That's what I was told when I asked about having my tubes tied and bf'ing.    I took loratab or percocet after my c-section while breastfeeding, so I know those two are safe.
