Hi Pregger Peeps!

Im 8 weeks tomorrow with my 3rd birth child--4th child. :o) We adopted our precious 8 year old. Im wondering what you do to keep getting fluids in when your nauseated? OMG I have never had nausea with the other pregnancies. I feel great some days and others its a constant feeling of car/sea sickness. Im really struggling to get my water in.

I have a VSG and crystal light is a big relief to my sleeved tummy. However Ive spent the last 6mo weaning myself to water only because of the aspertaime. (Is that what thats called?) Now in struggling with this nausea I can NOT stomach water. It feels so hard and sharp in my tummy and makes me so sick. I really dont want to get back on crystal light regularly---although I can get my fluids in with it, nor do I want the calories and sugars in juice. Do you girls have any suggestions on how to relieve the nausea or what to drink thats easy on the tummy and more natural than CL?

Thanks! XOOX!

Hmmmm....maybe iced herbal tea?  I use Splenda for sweetening drinks if I need them sweetened.  Right now I'm very much into hot peppermint tea.

Take your vitamins at night if you aren't already. There is a Propel drink additive like the single serve thing. It does not have aspertame. You might try that. If your nausea gets really bad.. ask for Zofran. It was my friend for 8 months with Amelia!

peppermint tea is great for settling tummies. You can also get un-flavored kool-aid and add splenda to it, some of the drink mixes are made with splenda too. I drink a fair amount of un-sweetenend decaf iced tea that I make at home.

I would also think that having the aspertame would be far less detrimental to yours & the baby's health in the long run (just my opinion) then being dehydrated and having to go to the ER for IV fluids.

I also found that sucking on altoids really helped my morning sickness as did eating oyster crackers - just a few every 5-10 minutes made a world of difference.

Feel better!

Gotta admit- I did the Crystal Light/sugar Free Kool Aid thing those first few months- To tell you the truth most studies have not been able to back up the orignal findings that artifical sweetners cause problems- but that's my educated opinion for you. After the nausea abated I went back to plain water. Sometimes I still need to rely on something flavored though. Try Ginger snaps. I found some large and soft ones at a local bakery here that were heaven- One would take a few hours to eat they were so large, but the ginger really helped when nothing else would go down.

I had awful nausea with my pregnancy. I vomited over 8 times a day. I was nauseated all day everyday for the first 12 weeks of my pregnancy. Try Preggie Pops from babies r us.  There is a prescription for Zofran its for nausea and  I took it during my pregnancy. There is also this Tea by Yogi called Mother to be tea and its tastes good and is helpful.

I had RNY but I had to go straight for the Zofran because I had tried virtually every natural remedy.......keeping my stomach full, eating crackers, ginger ale, peppermint tea, sucking on peppermints, Sea Bands (they only succeeded in bruising my wrists and helped nada with the nausea), pink lemonade. I probably tried other things, I just can't remember them all right now. I finally had to get the prescription. My life is 100 times better now. Why suffer needlessly when I didn't need to? I already have a hard enough time getting food and fluids in for just ME let alone a baby and vomiting and horrid nausea on top of it.

I think Wal-Mart brand flavored teas and stuff are made with Splenda and safe to drink in pregnancy. I do NOT consume aspartame at ALL......pregnant or not so I've made finding Splenda sweetened drinks my priority but I really don't like the fruity drinks or flavored teas. If I drink juice it is unsweetened apple, white grape or orange juice. Tea is either peppermint with Splenda or just regular tea with Splenda or sugar (don't seem to dump on tea with sugar) but I RARELY drink regular tea.

I hope you find something that works!

Awww thanks so much for the awesome tips! Im gonna try them all! I really feel uncomforatable about consuming aspertame so Im looking forward to trying the alternates you girls suggested.

I havent been puking thank God. Although sometimes I wish I could and just feel better. Often I will wake in the morning and feel decent until after lunch---then it hits. I feel so sea/car sick. Its miserable and feeling that Im dehydrated is NOT helping!

You are all wonderful! Thanks again for taking the time to help me.

XOXOXOOX!
