matty is six months old already!
Just a question though, have you been CD-ing long? And if so, have you tried other systems and just found this one to work best for you? Or did you just try this one and it worked from the beginning so you stuck with it? I worry about the leaking big time with any system I try so that's the main reason I'm asking. Do you have that problem with the system you're using now?
I CDed the triplets, and used Gerber pre-folds and rubber pants (this was seven years ago, so fancy diapers where not really in the mainstream yet). Then when Matty came I was excited to try some of the new things that I knew about, so I ordered a package of g-diapers, some Fuzzibunz and a couple of Kushies AIOS. Along with 2 dozen Little Lion prefold seconds and some Kushies covers. A women on freecycle gave me about a dozen fitted diapers that she made too.
So I tried the g-diapers and could NEVER get them to work, they leaked almost every time, they where just not a very good fit for us so I sold them, The fuzzibunz where honestly too much work and required too much care for me, they had to be washed to carefully to preserve the elastic and waterproof cover, so off they went to find a new home. I have kept the Kushies AIO's because they where cheap and the elastic is easy to repair, they are good for my DH when I am not at home so he does not have to worry about pins or folding. I never really understood fitted diapers, they are so bulky under a cover and why spend all that money for cute prints when they are just going to be covered? So I keep those around for when we have a little diaper rash or something, this way he can wear the fitted with no cover and get some air.
I just always find myself reaching for the prefolds/flats, they are easier to care for, cheaper to buy, have a higher resale value. I was able to get a dozen LL seconds for $17 shipped, and Matty has been wearing them for six months(will be able to sell them for about the same price as I got them for), I go with cheap covers (Kushies are $7.50/each and the Kawaii are $4.50/each), keep two in the rotation for the day, and have a total of about 8 or 10. Someone on diaperswappers posted this awsome tute on how to use flannel reciving blankets as flats, so I stripped all the reciving blankets I had and have been using them since (they where all shower gifts or from freecycle, so didn't cost me a penny!). So in the end I will just be out the cost of the covers, and even them I might be able to get some money back on since I hand wash and hang dry every time. We hardly ever have a leak, and if we do it's my fault because I let him go too long and the diaper is soaked.
Anyway, after that book LOL I got into CD to save money and for the enviormental reasons, and to keep my little ones bottoms out of all the chemicals that are in disposables, I find that the best way for me to do all of the above is with PF/flats and covers.
