Prenatal Vitamins vs Supplements Vitamins....
All I've been wondering should I continue to take my supplements vitamins. I've noticed the prenatal doesn't have all the ingredients our body needs? So did you continue taking them all or just a selected few?
Do you still take your vitamin supplements along with your prenatal vitamins?
Thanks,

I base mine on my lab results, because too much of something is just as harmful to a fetus as not enough. Right now I am taking two prenatals and an additional 18 mg iron daily, as my iron went pretty low this last month. Everything else looks good for me so far. I did take additional foic acid earlier in the pregnancy too. I'm thinking of adding DHA as I near the third trimester- that's when major brain development happens, and DHa is most recommended at that point. Hope that helps- I would recommend having your labs checked. My B vitamin levels are too high if I take any extra supplements on top of the 2 prenatals, so I stopped taking those.

Unless there is a REASON that you should take more vitamins than normal, 1 prenatal vitamin a day is sufficient. There IS a such thing as too much of a good thing.
That being said, I take 1 prenatal vitamin, it has more iron than a regular multi. I take 2 calcium citrates plus D and magnesium a day (total of 1260mg of calcium), and a 500mcg sublingual B-12 a day. That's it. All's I did is substitute my multi for a prenatal. I was slightly anemic at the beginning of the pregnancy and by subbing the prenatal for the multi, it brought my iron levels to normal because the prenatal has the increased iron in it. Your pregnant body NEEDS the prenatal because there are vitamins and minerals in it that the baby and your pregnant body need to have during the pregnancy. Just still don't take your prenatal at the same time that you take your calcium. I take my prenatal in the morning and my calcium pills at night.

thank you Allie, I do take my vit the same way but in reverse. My prenatal make me sick during the day so I switch them to at night. Take my calcium in the morning. I know my Dr office from my 5 year follow-up called and said my iron was very low and to increase that. This was before I knew I was pregnant though. So I just did my labs at my 9 week screening and that I go back on 3/18 to see the results. I'm sure they would be able to tell me at that point. Just needed some opinions before then.
Thanks,
