When do pelvic exams start?

I've been going to the OB every two weeks for about six weeks now. I have one more bi-weekly appt then I start going every week. At my next appt I'll be 34 weeks. When does the doc start doing vaginal exams? I'm not exactly thrilled or eager about having one lol... but for some reason it seems like I had one earlier on with my first child. I haven't had a vaginal since the beginning. The only thing he does at appointments lately is measure my uterus and listen to the heartbeat. Is that normal?

I had one this passed week.  I don't think he would have checked though had I not told him I've been having BH contractions.  I'm sure they're gonna be checking me from here on in though.

My OB doesn't start them until a few weeks before your due date. She said that she doesn't like to unless there is a reason.

I was thinking pretty much the same question as you...lol I am 29 almost 30 weeks with twins and I go back on the 15th but then I am down to weekly visits. The reason why I was gonna ask the same question is because I have a weird feeling I am starting to dilate I sure hope I'm not yet but idk... I go get a US on the 9th and I know I am gonna ask them to check my cervix to see how long it is still... My BH contractions are getting out of control but nothing to call the doc about yet... My doc does the same thing just blood pressure and measures my uterus and heart beats of the boys then I'm out the door...I'm sure it's normal cuz I remember them doing that when I was pregnant with my daughter...  I believe they will only check if you say theres something worng or u ask them to..

38 weeks for me and it was the only time I had an internal while pregnant, since I was scheduled for a csection right after the exam.

My doctor NEVER did a pelvic exam!  The day I went into labor (had Cooper the next day) I went to my OB and he said "being dialated means nothing if you're not having contractions - women walk around 4 cm dialated for weeks."

So it wasn't until I was in L&D with contractions they did a pelvic.....

I had to go back and dig out the post.....from the day I went into labor!  At the time I wrote it I didn't realize I was going to be having the baby in about 24 hours.  Some day I have to go back and print out all my posts for the sake of history.

I think your doc seems pretty normal!

My OB starts doing them when I start the once a week appts so I guess 36/37 week unless there is cramping or bleeding before that time then he will do one then. I guess every doc is different.

My appts have been just measuring and listening to baby hearbeat which is just fine with me, with all the usual questions.

Usually not until 36 weeks. Just depends on the OB and if you're having any contractions or extra pressure or things like that.
