Question about lunchmeat

I know we have to heat it by either nuking it or the stove. Here is my question... Do we have to eat it hot? The easiest thing for me to eat at work is lunchmeat. I don't have time to nuke it. I can nuke it before I go to work and eat it cold. I really need help since I am now starting to STAVE by the time I get out of work. Usually I can survive on a snack if I eat right before I go in and only work from 7.

honestly i never followed that rule... i love turkey sandwich meat and eat them frequently.. not to mention they are pretty easy for work... i would assume that you could eat it cold after heating it....

I chose not to eat lunchmeat unless it was heated (but once heated you can re-chill it and eat it cold!).

The issue is with Listeria which gets on the meat during the processsing / handling and the heating to "steaming" will kill it.

Note - Subway running a sandwhich through their toaster is not "steaming" !  Their website even says that pregnant women should not eat their sandwiches besides a few - and it warns for the fish ones (tuna and seafood) should only be eaten once or twice a week.

I did break this rule several times over the 9 months and Cooper is fine.  One lady on this site tested positive to Listeria last year.... never heard back from her how it affecte (or didn't) her baby, but she was worried.

The danger of Listeria is you may have no symptoms but it can affect the baby.   The risk in this country is less than in others, but still present.   In the UK they routinely test pregnant women for Listeria to catch and treat it ASAP.

Listeria aside the nitrates/nitrites are also a concern.  Although I ate bacon all the time and so far Cooper seems normal.  ;-)

Enjoy your re-chilled lunchmeat, it will be fine!

Thanks Cindy! I don't take a lunch so I need something I can eat while I work. With all the potty breaks (I swear all I do is pee and heave) I really don't want to take the time to nuke dinner.

German salami? Sounds like an oxymoron. But it also sounds like something I would try. LOL
