Another Vent...Sorry
I went to see my dietician last week and she really hooked me up with some great pointers and meal planning to control my hypoglyemia since it has became worse since I've became preggo. I have been following what she has been telling me, as well as following dt. orders. I have been feeling REALLY REALLY crappy as each day passes - unability to stand, constantly dizzy (to a point where I am holding onto walls to walk, or just fall on the ground to sit before I pass out), shaky, and the feeling of not being "there," on top of looking really pale. I had a dt. appt. with my obstr. today and I'm down 6 more lbs since last. dt. appt in the middle of last month. The baby is fine, heartbeat and growing is fine as well. The dt. gives me a LONG lecture on that I need to get my sugar stable (it keeps on going from in the 60's to late 100's) and that I need to start eating stuff like breads, pastas, etc. frequently. However, I informed that since my surgery I am still unable to tolerate ANY kind of breads ( i can do saltine crackers though), Im still very senstive to dairy products -even eggs, and I get dumping syndrome when I have more then 15g of sugar in a serving. He and his nurse are like we have other patients here that had gastric done and they are able to tolerate these foods so why aren't you? I am like I have no idea but I'm not going to be sick as hell because I'm eating foods that my body doesn't like just to try to stablize my sugar. I do have a dt. apt. next week with my surgeon's office to see what is going on more - which is an 2 hour drive from my home that I have no idea how I am going to get there because I have to find somebody to drive me with my sugar being so unstable. In the meantime I find myself crying alot because I am feeling so awful, my boss has been getting on my case because I'm not "performing" up the standards that she expects all her managers to be (she knows my medical conditions that is going on and tells me I need to do what i need to do but when my customers are around to grin, be happy, and bare it). I can't keep on going on like this, and all I am getting is run a round from my PCP, obstrician, and dietician. I have three children, a home, and a job to manage - I REALLY can't go on like this anymore I don't know what to do. :(( I hate having to wait to manage things esp. under these cir****tances. Thanks for the vent, and have a great night ladies!
You sound like me- I cannot tolerate ANY meats, at all. Breads don't like me either. I have also had a really hard time, and to tell you the truth I have not been able to follow any type of "diet" from anyone because the foods just don't work for me. I eat what I can. Maybe today it will go down, but tomorrow it might make me throw up. It sounds like you may need to scrap this diet and go with what you know works- it's better than having your blood sugars all over and feeling so crappy. I go to grad school full time, work full time and have a family so I know what it takes to keep up with such a busy life. I have also gotten the "other patients can do this" lecture. But, my sister had RNy done about five years ago and she is only just able to tolerate meats now, so I figure it is a genetic reaction to having the surgery done. I would recommend eating what you can. Sometimes my blood sugars still become unstable, but I am learning to feel it a lot sooner now nad can munch something quick. Maybe try to take a week off if possible and try some different foods until a few seem to do well. If that's not possible, I would still try to do something that sounds good to you and see if it makes you siick- you won't know until you try it. Good luck!

Find carbs that work for you. You need to balance your carbs and protein to keep your blood sugars stable. Try things like pitas, crackers, tortillas - things that won't swell in your pouch and make you uncomfortable. Remember things like barley, oatmeal, rice, potatoes and sweet potatoes are carbs too! I am sure that your pouch will tolerate mashed potatoes if nothing else. I too am hypoglycemic and need to eat small portions frequently. I feel like all I do is eat. At eavery meal I have some kind of protein and some kind of carb here's an example of my typical day
Breakfast - oatmeal made with milk
Snack - cheddar cheese and crackers or a hard pretzel
Lunch- sald with protein and croutons, soup or leftovers from dinner the night before
Snack - yogurt and fruit, protein bar, protein shake made with milk
Dinner - protein, some type of potato, noodle or rice and a veggie
Snack - pudding with sliced banana or peanut butter
Hope that helps! You can also try toast - cook it until it is nice and dried out then eat it.
Hang in there hun!
