To voluntarily induce or not? Hmm...

I'm not one of those all-natural crunchy types so I'll spare you the long list of reasons why induction isn't a great idea.... but from my personal experience with being induced, IT SUCKS!
I was in labor for 22 long, miserable hours. My water broke and my contractions were terrible but I didn't dialate for a loooong time. You're making your body do something it doesn't want to and isn't ready to do, and thus the whole process isn't natural and your body doesn't always do exactly what you try to make it do. I ended up getting my epidural at 2cm dialated because the contractions were more intense than natural contractions you get without pitosin... therefore I was stuck on the bed for all that time.
I wouldn't worry about the baby's size. Women vaginally deliver big babies all the time. American medicine is hell bent on cutting rather than taking any risks whatsoever. C-sections are so commonly administered because docs are more worried about getting sued than anything else.

I have a different view than many on here. I have five children currently with three induced. I have very quick labors and being far from the hospital the doctor decided it best if I was induced. With my second I was induced and had the baby within 2 hours of induction fine, no complications at 40 weeks. Third baby I was induced at 39 weeks and again 2 hours fine no issues, fourth baby was induced at 39 weeks and doctor was worried about her size of 9 pounds, delivery fine and just under 2 hours. Fifth baby new doc, REFUSED induction, I got to the hospital within an hour of contractions starting and delivered in less than 15 minutes of being there. It was scary and hectic and he was just under 10 pounds (38 weeks). The doctor apologiezed to me for not listening when I said there was a reason I wanted to be induced. I could have had a major disaster had he been too big (which is possible contrary to what some have said on here) or a cord caught. I will be making sure this doctor (new one again) agrees to an induction or I will find a different doctor!
Just a different opinion (not to scare you). None of the women in my family have ever gone into labor spontaneously, so I figured that I would have to be induced anyway. At 38 weeks I had the feeling that my baby needed to be born. I told my doctor, but she was a total b**** and told me that she wouldn't induce just cause I was sick of being pregnant. It was more than that. The baby wasn't moving much any more, etc. Regardless, their policy was that they wouldn't induce until 10 days past due. I went to my 40 week appt, and then my 41 week appt, and they kept saying I'd go into labor when my body was ready. Umm, no. I was induced 10 days late, and it was a disaster - not the induction, but being so late. My baby, who hadn't been moving for the past 4 weeks, didn't tolerate labor, and I ended up with an emergency c-section. I gave birth to a 4 lb 15 oz baby 11 days late. The doctor said that my placenta had started dying around the 38 week mark, and he was surprised my baby even lived. So we were in the NICU, and the whole thing sucked because I knew something wasn't right. My doctor this time said there is no reason to wait until my due date, and I'll have a c-section at 39 weeks.
This isn't the reason for your induction, but yes, babies can get too big to clear your pelvic bone, and you can have to have a c-section. Given MY experience, which was unique to me, I would go with the induction. But that's just me.
Good luck whatever you decide.

Well I had lots of questions for the dr and called their office to get some stuff cleared up.
The dr wants to induce on Wednesday because they are worried because of my higher bmi, etc. She did, of course, say it's completely up to me, that's just her recommendation, but she will support my choice to wait as I have a dr appt for another biophysical on Thursday.
He has moved down a lot in the last two days, so I'm hoping he's going to just come on his own before then. I guess I just don't want to be the one making the decision, even though I know I will have to if it comes to that!
Thank you all for taking the time to share your thoughts and opinions!
