Question??

I'm just asking for your thoughts.  I have read a lot about it and asked my OB.

Has anyone used a tanning bed while preggo?

I'm not talking about going tanning religiously, just a session or two.

I asked my OB and he said being in the third trimester, the main concern is overheating, but most beds don't get too hot with the fans, and you shouldn't go in for more than 10 minutes.  He said a session or two a week is OK.  Also assured me the rays could not reach the baby at all.

I normally would not think about it until after I gave birth, but I've been sick for 3 weeks straight and sometimes a 10 minutes session make you feel so much better.  I was thinking about going sometime this week as my baby shower is this Sunday.

He actually advised me against a spray tan which I initially was asking about because of the chemicals.

So has anyone tanned a couple times while they were pregnant?

Thanks Karen

I didn't go to a tanning bed while pregnant, but I sat in the lovely Arizona sun for less than 10 min (in my parents pool) and got too hot so I went in.  Little did I think about putting any sunscreen on and got the lovely "mask of pregnancy".  Libby turned 17 months old today and I still have it!!!!  I seriously look like I have a mustache because of it.  So, just warning you, it isn't fun to deal with :(  I have tried different creams and none have worked.  My next step is to get a script from my doc or the medspa I got my eyeliner done at.
I hope you feel better soon.

Malena,
I had the lovely pregnancy mask with Hannah.  I used Garnier Nutritionisite's skin renew anti-sun damage lotion.   The mask was completey gone in a couple of months.   Who knows it may have went away without using the lotion.  Just thought I would share in case you are interested in trying one more lotion (if you haven't tried it already).

Awesome, I will give that one a try!  I have never heard of it.  Thank you so much.  I hate these stupid dark spots.  So annoying.

Malena :)

A lot of places won't let you tan if your are pregnant... I know the places around here have a policy about it.

I know the the later I got in pregnancy I experienced hot flashes when I got overheated and made me feel like crap all day... it's just totally unpleasant :(

I've heard that the sun can do funky things to your skin while you are pregnant - everything I have read says to use sun screen and stay out of the sun. I would vote against it but I am so white that I give Casper a run for his money :)

i get so hot just taking a shower that i have to sit wet and naked under the fan for 15 mins just to recover...however because life goes on and i cant let jayson be bored ( or messes and bad things happen) we have been to the beach a few times this pregnancy.. i would have rather died... it was so hot... so sunny... i really thought i was going to pass out a few times

Like the other ladies, I would be afraid of overheating.   I had skin cancer at 28.  I would answer NO to anyone asking if tanning is ok.   It's not fun to have chunks of your body cut off.   I'll stay pale thank you very much lol.
