I was planning on starting the 6 month diet AGAIN in Jan when we moved to Ny from Va because I missed my 4th apointment b4 we moved. So of course..perfect timimg..found out I'm pregnant!! So I will be having #5 before I can have WLS. So my ? is...Can I start the 6 month diet with my Dr being pregnant? So IF I can then I can have my WLS after the baby is born..but I know its just too much to ask for. Any info would be great. Thanks

I can't say that I really know the answer to this question but I would take the guess that the surgeon's office will tell you to call back after the baby is born.  I didn't have to take a 6 month diet to get approved but I would imagine it is far too restrictive to be on while pregnant.

I doubt that your doctor will allow you to start your six month diet while pregnant.  Many insurances require proof that you have actually lost or maintaned your weight, and don't know if you can do that while pregnant?  In addition, not sure how long your six month diet will qualify you for.  The ins co may require that you then have surgery within a certain timeframe, and if pregnant you can not meet that?  Another thing - not sure your surgeon would let you have surgery so soon after the baby being born?  These are all just my assumptions, you of course will have to do the research for the hard facts :)

They won't do it. The whole purpose of the 6 month diet is to see if you actually can lose weight on your own by following a strict diet and exercise regime under the care of a Dr. With that being said, losing weight and dieting while pregnant is NOT recommended and will not give the insurance company a good picture of your attempt at losing weight with a Dr. supervised diet. Unfortunately, you will have to wait to start your diet until your OB clears you after your baby is born. (I was trying to get WLS when I got pregnant with my 4th child. I tried for 5 1/2 years to get WLS so I KNOW what it's like having to wait a bit longer.)
