I've never heard that, where did you find this?  Not saying your lying or anything I've just never heard that to be a "fact."  My OB and surgeon have both told me one has nothing to do with the other.  Maybe someone else has other information on that, but that's what I was told.

I've never heard this either.... another thing that irks me is when uneducated OB's automatically label woman who had WLS "High Risk"... I think its ridiculous.

I've had two post op pregnancies and I've had a regular OB for both and both were vaginal births...

not so much... the good news is the reproductive system and the digestive system have nothing to do with each other... what were the other 6 facts?

7. You're more likely to have a cesarean

Pregnant women who've had bariatric surgery are more likely to end up with a c-section, according to a 2004 study published in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology. It's not clear exactly why this is the case and what factors are involved, but it helps to talk to your healthcare provider.

Does your provider consider you at high risk for a c-section, and if so, why? Ask about your provider's c-section rate and  philosophy about c-sections in general. If you have no serious health problems, is the provider fine with trying vaginal delivery? During a vaginal delivery, what might cause your provider to order a c-section intervention?

Also, you may be able reduce your odds of having a c-section by following your doctor's weight-gain recommendations, exercising during pregnancy, and taking childbirth preparation classes.

I have heard people say they have heard that C sections are more common after WLS but I don't see how.  Totally 2 different areas of the body.  But I have had and will have after this baby 3 total sections.

My first was before WLS and I failed to progress due to being overweight and having a very small pelvis.  My doctor wouldn't let me try for a Vbac unless I went into labor on my own...didn't happen.  And since I have had 2, 3 is the only option.  My second baby was after surgery and that section was a breeze to my first one and the first one wasn't bad at all either.  I am hoping this last one will be fine as well.

Can you post a link for the 7 facts of pregnancy?  I never heard of them and am now interested in reading them.  Thanks!

So I will be 22 weeks tomorrow and my doctor never said a thing about c/s because of the surgery.  I am wondering if he didn't say anything yet because it was still early or if he doesn't feel it is necessary.  I am pretty sure he doesn't think I will need one as a result of the surgery but still curious.

I specifically asked and my surgeon told me flat out "Don't let any OB tell you that you need  a c-section based solely on your RNY". I asked the OB as well and she said that the only reason I would need a CS is any of the "typical" reasons (breach, distress etc).

I can see that maybe when they were doing a majority of WLS open there would be more of a need because of scar tissue etc but that is just a guess.

Good luck and don't let your OB push you into it!
