dizzy and lightheadedness

I was just wondering if anyone else gets extremely dizzy and lightheaded when they get out of bed after laying down for a while.  This morning I got up and got so dizzy that I actually ran into the door.  My husband didn't know what to think.  It scared him to death.  Is this a pregnancy thing or a rny thing?  It used to happen to me in the few months after I had my surgery but it recently came back when I became pregnant.  Sometimes it gets so bad that I can't even see for a few seconds.  I was just wondering if this was normal.  Have a great weekend guys!

I had severe lightheadedness while pregnant with DS.  It lasted my whole pregnancy too.  I would get so close to passing out in the shower that sometimes I to get out with conditioner in my hair and sit down for a bit.  It was always the worst for me in the mornings.  I was told it is normal by my OB and now that I read messageboards I have met other women that have experienced the same thing.  With this pregnancy it comes and goes.  Today ironically was a bad morning but I have felt fine for a while.  From my understanding it has to do with blood pressure and the changes in amount of blood we are pumping now.  It is important to get up slowly.  So first thing in the morning sit on the edge of the bed for a bit then slowly rise from the bed.  Don't just jump up because it will hit you like it has.  For me morning showers were always hard so if you can wait till later in the day that may help.  If not I had to limit shower times and couldn't take a very warm shower because it would make me feel bad.

Even though I am fairly certain what you are experiencing falls into the realm of normalcy I believe you should bring it up to your OB.  He or she may have better tips for you to help make it better or there may be a point where the doc considers it to be serious.

Best of luck to you!  I hope you don't deal with it for as long as I did.  I was miserable.

I was just about to post something on this as well: so i know what your going through. I seen my nutrientist last week and was told to eat around the clock as I don't consume enough for the baby and I - much of my dizziness is a mixture between pregnancy hormones and the sugar. It's coming to a point where I can barely function anymore, especially at work. One minute I be fine, and the next minute I would stand up from talking to a customer and I feel like I'm coming close of passing out. My last pregnancy I got like this, but it wasn't as severe. I think if it gets to bad a dt. call is in store - at least for me. good luck!

It is common. I would say that it is a combo of things, increased  blood volume, decreased blood pressure, low blood sugar. I see you aren't too far out from surgery so chances are you aren't getting in enough calories. It can also be a symptom of dehydration. My OB told me to drink at least 100 oz of fluds a day if I can. I usually get there. She also told me never go from laying to standing quickly. Sit up and let your feet hang over the side of the bed for 1-2 minutes before you stand up, then stand up slowly and stand there for another minute before moving. It still seems to hit me when I get too warm, when I am standing in line (at the grocery store, walmart etc) or in the shower.

Good luck! can't hurt to mention it to your OB either

totally normal after RNY surgery and especially can happen moreso because you're pregnant.   Did you know that when you're pregnant, your blood volume increases a lot, something like 50%???  So when you get up, especially from a laying down position, you have to give your body time to adjust to the new position it's in.

In the morning, I'll usually sit up and stretch for a minute and then get up- I won't get up right away because I'll get dizzy usually.    And I've heard it happening to people after RNY, there's a name for the condition of when you get up too quick and then you get dizzy/lightheaded and/or vision problems for a little bit.   It happens to a lot of us!   Just take your time getting up and give your body a minute to adjust.

Also, make sure to stay hydrated and drink at least 64 oz a day (8 glasses), that helps a lot with the dizziness!  I usually get in 48 oz a day and if I do any less than that, I just feel weird and I notice I get dizzy during the day and feel kind of sick.   Our bodies need that hydration.

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!

Almost everytime I stand up, it feels like I'm going to black out for a few seconds, I just put my head down a little and wait until it clears up and then continue what I'm doing. Sometimes if I even turn fast, I'll get dizzy. I think it's pretty normal in pregnancy.

Very dizzy!! Had to eat every 2 hours and have candy in my purse. Mixture of low blood pressure and low blood sugar. Hope it gets better for you!

I had this until about 14 weeks.  I have the band, so for me it was just a pregnancy thing.  OB said it should get better in the 2nd trimester.  Luckily, it did.

I have vaso vagal issues where my blood pressure drops and I get sick. It can range from dizzy spells to passing out. What helps me is getting up slowly and also making sure I stay hydrated. Good luck.
