I found out yesterday that I was pregnant. Sounds fine and dandy until people realize that I'm only a little over a month post op! =[ I made a huge mistake and now im paying for it tremendously! I have no idea waht to expect being that this is my first child and I can barley keep myself nourished how am i supposed to nourish another person too?

Im really scared because of all the stuff Ive been googleing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

what kind of surgery did you have?  I can't imagine being pregnant that early out.......but I'm sure with your dr's help you can get through this.  I know I couldnt really eat the first few months after surgery so depending how you are doing just make sure you are taking all the required vitamins and drinking a lot of water!  It's not going to be easy but gather as much support as you can from family, friends and your dr.  and maybe find a good nutritionist to help guide you.  This site also is very helpful.  good luck

wow that is early, but do your best. The important things are to stay out of ketosis. You r gonna have to do protein drinks to make sure you get your protein in, but you also need some carbs to stay out of ketosis!!  Best of Luck and there is alot of support here!!  Which surgery did you have??

You will get through this...you will just need to be super proactive about certain things.

1) Take your vitamins!  Make sure your doctor tests your levels every month if need be to make sure you are where you need to be.

2) Eat enough carbs and protein.  You don't want to go into ketosis.  Right now protein shakes are a must.  Drink milk if you can (milk has protein and natural carbs).

You can technically get everything you really need from liquids and soft foods if you plan your day properly.  The baby will take first, you will come second.  So I think you are more in danger of becoming severely depleted yourself than the baby is, but with diligence you should be fine.

My doctor said that you can still lose weight and that baby be fine...it isn't the fat that's the main issue..it's the nutrients and vitamins.

You will be ok and so will the baby :)

wow thats early out.... I got pregnant just about 4 months out... I was terrified. I was already down 107 lbs though by the time I found out I was pregnant... It's definitely not to easy to stay on track, but I have had no major issues and I am having twins... I wish you the best... take care

First, congratulations! Second, get in touch with your surgeon, Primary care doc, and an OB right away. You need to have your vitamin levels monitored and you will need to keep on top of your water intake, protein intake, and vitamin intake. I am sure you will be just fine, just be really proaactive!

I got pregnant 4 months post op, so it does happen!

What surgery type did you have???

Good luck and CONGRATULATIONS to you!

I had laproscopic gastric bypass.

I contacted my surgery team and the medical assistant there scared me even more! She said shes never had a patient get pregnant this soon after surgery and the baby will have a low birth weight and thats really all she said she could help me with. I called my obgyn and she was very helpful and positive and said that she has had patients on only liquids for 3 months and their baby came out perfectly healthy.

Ive been having cramps in my lower stomach which is why I went to the emergency room and found out the news. the nurse did say that the cramping could be my bodies way of aborting it naturally! =[ Because of this I feel like I cant be the least bit happy because WHAT IF and then i feel like if everything goes good then thats horrible to not be happy about it the first few months. Im really torn =[

I got pregnant at 2 months out and had a great pregnancy, labor, & delivery and a perfectly healthy baby girl that is doing wonderfully! You are going to have to do a lot more work but as you know it will all be worth it! I had to take about 8 different vitamins daily and also up my protein to 80g and ensure I got all of my water in every day. I saw my OB monthly up to 24 wks then bi weekly up to 32 wks then weekly until delivery. At 32 weeks they also had me do a weekly NST (a way to monitor the baby's heart rate) and also an ultrasound to make sure the baby was developing at the correct rate and if any issues arose they would catch it right away. My baby did not have a low birth weight either. She was born at 9lbs 5oz and 20.5 in long. Her apgars were all 9. I hope you have the same experience as I did and you have a great pregnancy and a healthy baby in the end! Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions you may have! OH yeah I managed to drop 200 lbs in my first year post op too.
