Nutrientist Appt: Bad news
Saw a certified nutrientist today and she thinks i have reactive hypoglycemia. After reviewing what I eat on daily basis, she came to a conclusion that she is really worried about me and this baby. I am not getting the protein that I need, I am not getting the right "fat" I need, I am not getting enough calories, I am not able since my surgery handle so many foods that will be beneficial to me, and because of my work-style schedule I am not able to eat what I need to provide myself and my baby the adequate nutrient that I need. Her recommendation is just to eat as often as I want when I am able to. Rather it be "6 eating times a day" or non-stop eating of snacks such as dried fruit/nuts, etc. Plus she put me on a diabetic drink that I am going to try daily to try to put some good carbs in my diet to stabilize my sugar during my working hours. I told her that my dt. really has no concern on my sugar, and that he wasn't happy that I gained 4lbs in a month - she was a bit confused on this. She gave me a huge list of stuff to play "trial and error" and hopefully the trial will do me good. I am really, really trying to do what is best for my baby and I - but I still experience really bad dumping on many things (not good when I'm at work). Plus after my first two pregnancies of a 50-100lb weight gain I am soooooo scared of gaining weight this time around. I haven't really gained any weight, but instead of looking 12 weeks pregnant for my 4th child - I look like im expecting twins or at least 4-5 months preggo. Sorry for the vent - but I know u ladies understand me!
It is really important to get your protein, carbs and calories in. My goals are 1500-1800 calories, 90 grams of protein and 100 grams of carbs. I have trouble getting to the 1800 calories a lot of days (I was told to strive for the higher number) but always get in my carbs and proteins. Drink shakes if you have to - most people can do that even while they are working. I eat basically all day long.
Reactive hypoglycemia isn't a tragedy you just have to know how to handle it. I have it too. balance your meals in carbs and proteins - that keeps me from dipping too low. I also have to eat at a minimum every 1 1/2 hours. Try not to have any meals that are a majority carbs(bagels, toast etc) because you are sure to go reactive then.
If you go back some posts (and hopefully she posts here) Andrea U. has a great link on her signature of information for people like us. She has it too.
Good luck!
