work advice needed please
I got a call the other day for a position at a local hospital. I have 10 years of experience in the field I'm interviewing for and would love, love, love to have this job right now. I'm currently working in a grocery store as a cashier due to not being able to find another job after moving. The economy has been hit hard here.
I'm really not sure what to do at this point. I took the skills assessment test and did well. I think that I will probably get an interview. I'm obviously pregnant (30 weeks). Should I explain the situation over the phone to the manager before interviewing? I don't want them irritated at me or feel like I'm wasting their time when I will have to take some time off for baby. I'm also not sure I want to stay full time after delivery. Should I mention this? This is a blessing and a mess at the same time. How I wish they would have called me last summer when I was searching so desperately.
Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated.

I just got a 2nd job working at a hospital as well, I start March 1. I am not quite as far along as you, but I would not say anything about being pregnant until the interview and then I still wouldn't say you're not sure if you want to go full time after the baby is born. I would not give them that information yet. Let them hire you and you can decide what to do after the baby is born later. That is just my opinion, but it seems like they might be less likely to hire you full time if you say you're unsure about what you're going to do after the baby is born. Once your foot is in the door, I'd think it would be more likely they could keep you on part time once you go back to work.
I agree with Tami. Let them base their decision on your skills and then when you go in for the interview then they can see you are pregnant. I also wouldn't mention the possible part time after delviery because it is just a possibility - cross that bridge when you get to it.
Good luck and I hope that it all works out for you!!

I interviewed for a position I have wanted for a really long time last week, I told the woman I was pregnant right up from and that I wanted to take maternity leave from June 7th-August 23rd (11 weeks), she was a glad I was up front with her and told me at the end she was interested and that being pregnant wouldn't affect getting the job...I find out Friday (or before) if I get the job...keeping my fingers crossed. I say if its something you want to do- go for it because its your life and whatever is better for you and the baby after would be great to start now!

Legally they cannot not hire you because you are pregnant. You have abolutely no obligation to tell them before the interview. They can't even ask you about it in the interview.
Mommy to 2 of the most beauiful little girls in the whole universe and still in love with my hubby of 8 years. LIFE IS GOOD!
