What a week!
Hello, Last week was quite an adventure, one I'd like never to repeat. I was so busy I couldn't give you guys this update until now.
Tuesday I think I told you all that I had to go on insulin. My fasting sugars were a little high and my HR team felt it was necessary. I filled my script Tues. afternoon and started my needle with dinner. I was told to do 20 NPH & 40 aspart units at breakfast; 16 apart at dinner and 16 NPH at bedtime. Okay, so I did the first one ate dinner, sugar was 169 an hour later, a little high. I did the next needle at bedtime (11:30pm) w/granola bar snack. At 2:30am I awoke in hot sweats the whole bed was wet, I went to bathroom got dizzy came back told DH I was hot and couldn't breathe, he asked for the number to the clinic I said idiot, dial 911 (I still love him, I think) then I blacked out. Next thing I new some cute EMT was laying next to me in my bed pushing something up an IV he had inserted in my hand and asking if I knew where I was at. He said my sugar was 32 when they arrived, they gave me dextrose and it went to 180 then we went to ER. It went back down to 70...anyway, I was there all day, I was angry because they told me when I checked in they would stabilize me and then send me to L&D to check on baby..9 hours later no one had even bothered to listen for the baby and I cried murder...they then sent someone from OB down to do a sonogram, Jakob was fine. (what a relief) Why did I have to ask for them to check a 6 mo. pregnant woman's baby? The doc wanted me to slightly adjust the insulin and keep taking it, I am too scared, my primary care doc. agrees w/me so I go to clinic tomorrow to discuss...I still think its way too much considering my reaction. Sorry so long guys!

Awww...I'm sorry you went through all that. That's why I'm trying to avoid Insulin at all costs. I'm a Type II Diabetic controled with diet and Metformin but we have a Type I in our office who is on Insulin and we've had some scary episodes with her when she OD'd on Insulin.
You might try asking your doc if you could try a pill like Glyburide instead of Insulin. You can still have low blood sugars with some pills but I don't think it's as hard to perfect as Insulin.

Thanks. I was Type II controlled with diet and metformin until last week. This was my first dose of insulin and it scared the life out of me. I will write down the name of the pill but I think they are set on this insulin, they just have to start it much, much lower!

Thanks, me too. I am going to try to convince them to either start me very low or hospitalize me to get it right and then let me know what the right dose is for me.

Thanks Tami, They wanted me to try a lower dosage but I won't take it unless DH is there and even with him I'd rather it be much lower than the first time. I'll keep you guys posted.

That sounds horrible! I am glad they got you stabalized. It sucks that you had to fight to get a sono! Wouldn't that be one of the first things you check people?! Sometimes I wonder who does the thinking at hospitals.
