I dont have an appt with my doc for another 3 weeks, but I got my lab work in the mail. My AFP was negitive, which is a huge relief! Glad to know that, one less thing to worry about is a good thing :) I also got my vitamin levels, and I have a low RBC and Low hemoglobin, as well as low prealbumin. My prealbumin is a 17, which is the same number I always freaen have, even though I eat more than 60 grams of protein a day. I had low RBC and hemoglobin, last time, but this time even lower, and I increased my iron alot. Im wondering if my doc will put me on a prescription iron pill or what? Just wondering if any of you have had these kinds of results and what your doctors did for you pregnant. When my ob ordered these tests she told me that she wouldnt know what to do with the results!! :(

It's so frustrating with the OB's knowing little about our situations and our vitamin deficiencies.  Do you have a nutritionist from your surgeon's office that you can talk with to help you out?  ....

I had some deficiencies and talked to the nut from my surgeon's office and she directed me on how to get on track

My iron was low and ferratin levels were low, but when I asked the OB she was like oh your iron wasn't that low....much better than some....

and yet my nut was having a fit at me......it's hard to navigate all this mess!

Best of luck to you, I hope you get to talk to someone who can help!!!  :)

I would have your OB work with your surgeons office. Even if it is with the surgeon and not the nutritionist. I got lucky, my OB office has experience with WLS women.

Mine is exactly the same way. My doc didn't put me on iron, just told me to take my prenatal cuz it has more iron in it than the multi. I looked at him and was like, "OK, whatever" and thought in my mind "You're crazy as crap if you're not going to supplement this"

And if your OB doesn't know what to do with the results, do they REALLY need to be practicing?? LOL J/K but seriously, call your surgeon and ask them about it. They might have a more educated answer. I personally believe that I should've been given iron supplementation, but apparently he thought different. I'm going to be asking tomorrow when I go see my OB. What was your RBC and hemoglobin?

Um -- pregnant women should be getting 90g of protein a day.  Which is probably why your protein numbers are low.

This is for normies, much less malabsorbing mamas.

What were your iron levels?
