Stocking Up On Diapers

Based on personal experience, I wouldn't buy a lot of size newborn, 1 or 2.  Maybe a couple of bags of each.  They grow so fast, both of my little ones were in size 3's by the time they were 6-- 8 months old!

i like both pampers and huggies.... though i used them at different stages. never had leak issues with either. Though a few times i thought lemme just test out these other "cheaper" diapers... yeah not so much lol... its not worth the few dollars saved....
i used pampers for sizes NB 1 &2  and went to huggies size 3 and up. to me it seems huggies has more room in the butt and waist so i was able to keep my son in the smaller size for longer. smaller size = more diapers per box :-)

edited to add**** i am definatly a huggies wipes snob... there is no substitution... they are nice and thick.. pampers wipes stink in my opinion because they are thin and i wind up using more. Though you have to get the pampers travel wipes at least once because the case is fatter and can hold more wipes in the diaper bag. i have tried many many tipes of wipes but i always come back to huggies :-)

I advise waiting.  Huggies didn't fit my baby right.  Pampers fit a lot better.

I did it with my first two and am doing it with this one also.  I had some coupons for Huggies newborn and so I bought two pkgs of those, love the kind with the umbilical cord notch for when that is healing (and you don't have to fold the diaper down) for the first 2-3 weeks.   We also bought a big box of size 1-2 from Costco and some Parent's Choice (walmart brand) size 1-2 to try them all out to see which one works the best.

With my son, we used Pampers at first and then Luvs from about a year old till he was 3 and potty trained.   With my daughter, we used the Parent's Choice all the way till she PT at age 3 and she did great with those, plus they are way cheaper!!  We will probably  use the PC brand with this baby since they are cheap but only if they fit the baby well and don't leak for him.

It all depends on how it fits on your baby's torso, some have a longer one, some a shorter thicker one, etc etc and some diapers fit better than others.   I personally think that if they leak, you need to change your baby more often (lol) because diapers are meant to hold the pee/poop in.   GL!

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!

So here is my trial and run so far... with my first we used Huggies with no problem.   We loved them.   With the 2nd we are trying to see if we like a store brand diaper.   So far here are the results--
Luvs- didn't like so much- felt cheap and almost see thru
Target brand- to difficult for the husband to figure out which way went in the front and which way went in the back-  :)  He didn't bother to look for the tabs!
Costco brand- run small but best quality so far.  We may use these when she gets bigger.
So in the end I think I'm going with Huggies!

Isn't it interesting to see how it really depends on the individual baby! I tried every diaper under the sun as we were given lots of different brands at our shower. I quickly learned the both Huggies and Luvs DID NOT work on my lil man! LoL Lot's of leaks and messes. So we switched over to Pampers and had a wonderful experience. However, I really wanted to eventually switch over to a store brand to save money so occasionally I would try it out and they kept leaking until he hit size 4. Now we can use whatever store brand we like and they all seem to work! We tend to stick mostly with Target but get Walmart or Walgreen when we're short. My lil man sleeps almost 12 hours a night and doesn't leak through. I know, weird, isn't it! All depends on the child and their bottoms I guess

Hi Traci,

I am at work so I have to make this short.  I haven't read all the replies so someone may have said this...

For what it's worth I wouldn't buy too many diapers ahead of time at all.  My reasons?

1.  You don't know how big your baby will be or how fast he/she will grow.  (Cooper was born 7lbs - newborn diapers were too small from the beginning and he grew FAST.  He was 15lbs and in size 2 by 2 months and now at 8 months is in size 5.)

2.  You don't know if your baby will have an allergy / reaction or be built in such a way that a certain brand won't work well for them.

3.  After you have the baby there will be plenty of people wanting to "help" you -- if you don't feel like getting out of the house to run to the local Wal-Mart people will be happy to bring you over some diapers - they will enjoy it.  (especially grandmas and aunts with no kids!)   But I for one wanted out of the house.... we took Cooper to Wal-Mart when he was 2 weeks old.  He came everywhere with us.... I think it's good for him.  :-)

I know you can exchange diapers.... so you could always stock up and if your baby has a reaction or grows too fast if you have the receipt you can exchange -- but THAT is more of a pain than just going out to buy them!

I think we bought one box of size 1 before the baby was born.  The hospital sent us home with plenty for a few days.

For what it's worth I chose Pampers and they worked great up until recently when Cooper decided to sleep on his side and now he leaks out of the edges.  I have to Google what to do about side leaking....
So much for a short note!

Take Care,

Cindy

I personally don't because they grow out of one size so fast or will be in one size forever or they'll be fine in one size but the size up will leak. The only ones that will hold all of Noah's pee is Huggies Overnights. EVERY single other brand out there will leak on him. These leak the least. We've done every diaper for him including cloth diapers from age 3 months - 2 years. My girl worked better in Luvs and my other 2 boys did ok in Luvs, Huggies or Wal-Mart, Target brand.

I wait til they come and start from there. It's kind of just easier that way for me. I try to use the Wal-Mart brand whenever possible. Luvs used to be my fave but their prices have kind of climbed a little bit since I last used them. Now they're just about the same as the Huggies and Pampers which stinks, but whadda ya do? I usually get the newborn diapers that have the umbilical cord notch cut out.....whatever brand I can find that are like that and then I go for the Wal-Mart brand. And if they don't work, I just start trying other stuff until something gels. Hope that made any kind of sense and that it helped somewhat....lol

Trial and error. We started with pampers cause the hospital gave us those, then we switched to huggies cause we had coupons, then we did luvs cause it was cheaper and for us didn't leak as much as the others. Luvs diapers are wider between the legs than huggies so it helped us with leaks. We tried parent's choice (Wal-mart brand) and White cloud and they gave our daughter HORRIBLE diaper rashes. I've heard that cosco has good generic diapers but we don't have a cosco card so we never tried those. Good luck to you, I say, just keep trying different ones.

I didn't read ALL the responses-so I am sorry if this has already been repeated...But if you are worried about Allergies to certain brands, but still want to "stock up"...Get a refillable gift card and add a certain amount every week or every pay check...how ever you want to do it so that way you at least have the money set aside for when you do know what brand will work, then you can stalk up or use it as needed.

I go back and forth between pampers and Huggies...I tend to use pampers more often, but but have no problems with the huggies when I have used them.  We tried store/off brands...those were the ones I had problems with and won't be going back!!
