I'm 8 weeks along & my first "real" prenatal appt isn't until March 25th, but I am totally lethargic, tired, I can't stand up long enough to even cook dinner, can't get enough sleep, everything else is going well, I just don't have energy to do anything at all. It take a lot for me to get off the couch. I'm so depressed about it. I don't know what to do. I get B-12 injections because of similer probs when I was not pregnant. Could I need more since I'm pregnant now maybe?

During the first 12 weeks of both my pregnancies I was so extremely tired I could barely get out of bed. I stayed home more than I actually went to work. But right after the 3 month mark it was a miracle, I could function again. Well until the 3rd trimester which starts the tired again.

Good luck, try to rest. Believe me if there are more children to follow you will not be able to rest as much as you can now on your first.

You're probably anemic. Make sure you're taking a prenatal vitamin (they have more iron than a regular multi-vitamin) and call and ask your Dr. to go ahead and run some labs on you to check your iron levels (and B-12 if you think that's what it is). And sometimes it's neither.....it's just being plain old pregnant! LOL I hope it's nothing serious, but do call and tell your OB that you're a WLS patient and tell him the issues you're having and you would like labs ordered immediately to check your iron and B-12 specifically (along with the gajillion other things they run! LOL) Good luck!

Ask your dr to be sure...but I'd hazard a guess that it's just normal pregnancy symptoms.  Years ago  when I was pg w/my son...I was dead tired...I'd come home from work and collapse in the bed...could barely muster the strength to take off my clothes!  Don't be depressed about it...just accept that it's your body taking care of itself so your little one can grow.

Good luck at your first 'real' appointment - it's on my birthday!

Complete & utter exhaustion was definitely a huge part of my first trimester. It's important to talk to your doc about possible vitamin issues. But my guess would be that it's the normal exhaustion.

Yes I agree with the previous posts. I was sooo tired that I thought I could sleep all day every day and still wake up tired. I would take 15-30 min. naps at work which did help a little. It did go away around 14 weeks for me. They also had to give extra iron for my anemia as well, talk to your docs about it too!

RNY on 02/12/09 with
prior to being pregnant i could fall asleep anywhere but my own bed in complete darkness and not a single sound could be heard or i would not sleep a wink! i mean seriously if the dog was breathing too loudly...i was up all night! first 12 weeks was absolutely rediculous as far as the sleepiness was concerned. Rest assured *pun intended* that it does get better in the 2nd trimester, BUT i hear it comes back in the 3rd lol!!
During the first 12 weeks i fell asleep at my desk at work multiple times, in a crowded lunch room on the most uncomfy chair and i tell u my house looked like a tornado had hit it and there was no way i could even think about staying awake long enough to throw a load of laundry in.
I dont think you're experiencing anything out of the ordinary! Congrats on the pregnancy =)

LOL...I'm with you on the sleep issues.  My cat can't even sneak in my room w/o waking me up...and I wake up instantly...fully awake.   I have to cover up my digital clock or the light keeps me awake...and OMG...in Jakarta w/the AC...the little tiny light telling me it was on?! Plus I had the alarm control box in my room with a little light on it..and the little light on my CD player in the bedroom?  I was trying to devise ways to cover them up too.  Especially because two of them reflected in a mirror, making it seem like there were even more!  Plus...I have to fall asleep facing the door.  I can sleep with my back to the door once I go to sleep...but I have to go to sleep facing the door...on the side of the bed closest to the door.  My son's just like me little lights...but he sleeps like a log once he's out. He actually climbed up and taped something over his AC power light.  LOL.
