Extreme fatigue....
After eating? Is this a normal pregnancy thing, an RNY thing, or a combination of both? I am really struggling here for the last week or so. I am a little over eighteen months out, 23 weeks with Twin boys, and after every meal I get so tired I can hardly function. It can last up to an hour. It doesn't matter what I eat- proteins, carbs, veggies, a combination, some sugar, it always happens. I almost feel like my body has no extra energy and calling on it to digest is too much- what do you ladies think? Anyone had this same experience? I'm not sure if I should worry or if it's just a nuisance thing. I don't eat a lot still- I have a lot of restriction, so I know it's not overeating. I'm wondering if I need to maybe watch the combinations of foods or something. Thanks for the advice!

Try just eating one thing at a time so you can actually pinpoint what it is. It sounds like you're dumping to me. That's how I would get at first when I'd dump.....just get REALLY super tired. Cut out your sugar completely, only eat complex carbs, whole grains and NO fatty greasy anything. Watch sauces, like tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce. I used to dump on very small amounts of spaghetti sauce and I'd be taking a nap afterwards! LOL
when I went in for my 26 week visit, I had gained 10 lbs since my last visit and I swear my baby went through a growth spurt or something that previous month. Before that, I had only gained like 3 lbs, so 10 was a shocker for me. Plus, you are having twins and so maybe your body is working overtime and your metabolism is going crazy digesting that food. I went through a few exhaustive phases in the first 4 months where I got so tired, the baby is just growing so fast and you have that times 2!!
I've also experienced some hypoglycemic episdoes a few times in the last month of my pregnancy, where about 2 hrs after I've eaten I feel dizzy, tired, nauseated etc. So you might want to talk to your doctor about maybe having your blood sugar tested? I had a hemoglobin A1C test done instead of the glucose tolerance test at 26 wks and that came back fine, but then I had my blood glucose levels tested an hour after I ate and they were kind of low, at 71 (normal is 90-120). My doctor says I just have an overactive liver right now that chews up the sugar quickly and then my blood sugar drops down kind of low. So I have to eat every 2-3 hrs or whenever I feel yucky and make sure it's a combo of protein and some sugar.
Or like the previous poster said, sometimes people in get in a "sugar coma" and that is their version of dumping from the RNY. Maybe watch your fats, carbs, and sugars when you eat and see if that helps. I would talk to both your ob/gyn and your bariatric doc to see what they think too.
