hi everyone! this is my first time on this board, been to other ones though so not a complete newbie. i had my wls about 4 1/2 years ago and have had problems with getting my nutrients and stuff since they all pretty much come back out. now my bf and i want to have a baby though. i need to know how i can keep myself and my (future) baby healthy. are there any vitamins that are stronger, prescription or something, that are higher dose or faster to absorb? my bf and i are both just worried that myself or the baby won't make it out of the delivery room and i want to make sure if i get preggo, we both do and healthy at that. my surgeon isn't helpful his answer to everything is stuff i already do, watch sugar, more protein, no dairy. i am going to try to get another surgeon, especially since mine is in WA, i am in CA and soon will be moving to NC.

Before TTC (trying to conceive) you can start taking prenatal vitamins - 2 a day to replace your multis. Add in 800 mg folic acid and 1200 calcium.

Why would you cut out dairy if you got pregnant? THere's no need - it's good for you and the baby. Once you do conceive you'll need to eat 1500-1800c calories a day, 100 grams of carbs and at least 90 grams of protein.

Hope that this helps.

like i said i don't trust that my doc knows what he was talking about. i usually have cheese and that helps me with calcium so i don't see the problem. i guess he was trying to get me to eliminate everything then slowly re-introduce it to see what my issue is.

that does help, are there any good prenatal vits? the ones i see are usually the rock hard ones that we probably don't get anything from since they take so long to dissolve.

I get mine at wal-mart, I forget the brand but it says "easily digestible" right on the label and so far so good with my levels of those vitamins.

Congrats on starting the TTC journey! I still do a lot of throwing up- so I know how hard it is to get in everything you feel you should. I am currently 23 weeks with twin boys, and my levels have been great. I use the prenatal vitamins that are Target brand (Up & Up). They are the smallest I could find that still are very potent- my OB is impressed with how well they have ikept my levels up. I started out taking them at night, as I had a lot of nausea in the mornings this pregnancy, but now I can split them up, one in th emornign and one later in the day. This board is also a great place to ask specific questions- We have some great ladies who know about supplements and can help you probably more than medical professionals- I have found that my surgeon doesn't know a lot about pregnancy and that my OB doesn't know a lot about RNY so I have to go between the two and put a lot together for myself. Especially since I am having twins, which was a surprise for us. Once you get your labs drawn, you cna post the numbers and get some great responses. Also, while TTC'ing a lot of us have a lto of experience with charting/temping/ovulation predictor kits/pregnancy tests/etc., and some even with meds/infertility stuff, so this really is a great place to be. Good luck on the journey!

there are chewable pre-natals... you have to ask your ob for them... are you saying that you still vomit pretty much everything you eat?.. if so.. and this is just my opinion... you may want to get your self in best optimal health before you make any attempt at getting pregnant

I see you have a distal bypass.  Contact Vitalady Michele - she too was converted to a distal.  She is amazing when it comes to supplements and will give you an extensive consult via email.
