35 weeks and dilating...

Hey Ladies,

I went to see my OB today and I am 1 cm dilated.  I was like "What does that mean?!?!?!"  This is my first pregnancy, so I am clueless about some things.  She basically said that I can go into labor in a week or it could be a month.  My blood pressure is also a little elevated.  I still have way too much to do before baby girl comes.  She has to at least wait until March 6...I am definitely going to try to take it easy to hopefully prolong things.

Did anyone else start dilating early, but didn't go into labor for several weeks?

Thanks!

I was dilated to 2 cm at 35 weeks and never progressed on my own.
Like your doctor said you could go in a week or a month.  You just never know.
Better have hubby get to work on the baby's room! :)

We are definitely not ready yet.  We are having a baby shower this Saturday and another on next Wednesday, so we have been trying to hold off on buying anything.  I told baby girl that she has to wait at least another 3 weeks....

I just wanted to add that my son was born at 34 weeks exactly due to preterm labor and he was perfectly fine.  He did go to the special care nursery for a few days because of jaundice but that was nothing major.

I wish you a lot of luck!  Are you hoping for baby to come now or later??

I always start dilating early. By 35 weeks I am usualy 3-5cm dilated and 50-60% effaced.

Don't worry about it.

I also once was 10cm dilated and 80% effaced for a week. It's no wonder when my water broke I felt like pushing, baby was born in 45mins! She weighed in at 10lbs 9oz. My biggest baby to date.

My sister was 6cm dilated at 36 weeks and 70% effaced. Because there was a snow storm coming she decied to induce that night, but she wasn't ready and neither was baby and she regretted the decision. She very well could have gone another 2-4 weeks she just panicked.

Early dilation is normal and in my case preferrable. If I am NOT dilated by 35 weeks I'd probably worry! But that's just me.

I usually birth between 37 and 39 weeks and I usually start dilating around 32 & 34 weeks.

I was 1 cm at 35 weeks and 1 cm at 40 weeks.   Could go either way.
