Question - High Risk Dr.
So my new OB just got my records from my old OB and gave me a call. (I didn't find out I was pregnant until last month..I'm 17 weeks now). She saw that I had had cerclages with my previous two pregnancies (cerclage is where they sew the cervix shut) and is going to refer me to a high risk doctor to find out if I should have another one. I had actually completely forgotten I had cerclages in the past as my last pregnancy was 5 years ago.
I had the original cerclage because I had a triplet pregnancy and the dr was being extra cautious. The second one was just "because"...I'm still not sure why. So I don't even know if I would need one...and I'm scared a bit to have one so late in the game. They normally do it around 12 weeks I think. The risks are scaring me a lot.
So questions I have:
1) Anyone have any experience with cerclages?
2) If I'm referred to a high risk doctor and they start seeing me...who delivers me and does that change the hospital (the high risk dr is at a different one)
Thanks in advance!

I can't answer #1 but the regular OB is the one that delivers.
The way I explain it to my family why I have to see 2 Drs is that the regular OB takes care of me. They check my BP, urine, blood, see me monthly, measure my belly etc. The high risk OB (maternal and fetal medicine - MFM) keeps a close eye on the baby. They do my monthly ultrasounds, does the growth scans etc. They only are in the delivery room IF there is an issue with the baby where they would be needed. The MFM Dr (at least mine) is a perinatologibst . MFM has hours at the hospital where I will deliver but works primarily at a nearby hospital.
Good luck!
