Another baby shower question...

My sister is throwing my baby shower on March 20th (Yay!) but she hasn't decided on where to have it yet.  Her house is really not big enough to host a large party and not very well laid out for it either.  She's trying to get in touch with a friend who lives in an apartment complex with a nice clubhouse that we might be able to use but she's having trouble getting an answer.

My question is, would it be really tacky to have it at my house but hosted by her?  My house is not huge by any means but it's got a nice open layout that's a lot more conducive to entertaining than hers is.  The other advantages to having it at my house would be that I wouldn't have to haul a bunch of gifts home and the ladies could all see the nursery.

Anyway, I thought it might be considered bad etiquette to have a baby shower at the mom-to-be's house...almost like I am throwing myself a party and asking for gifts.  What do you gals think?

I don't think there is anything wrong with it- these days we do the same things in my family because of space, etc. I say go for it! And, like you said, it's less work for you and seeing the nursery would be a fun addition to the festivities.

Not tacky at all! my friend had her shower at her house thrown by others. I thought it was great and a smart move.

I agree, I think having it at your house would be great. Other than you would have to be the one doing the big cleaning....

We are having mine at my house.  Originally we had one planned for this weekend at my moms and in two weeks at my place....but due to weather we are down to just one at my house...my mom is throwing it for me though.  Guess I never thought of it being bad etiquette...Hope you find a good place whether you place or somewhere else!  Stacey

I think baby shower etiquette has been thrown out the window these days....I'm having a 2nd shower...though it won't be as big as the first. But I'd say do what you feel comfortable doing :-) At least you don't have to worry about lugging your gifts from one place back to your home.

I think it's fine - and BONUS! You don't have to pack up your gifts and take them home! Have a few of your closest friends / family help you move them to the nursery so you can put them away at your leisure.

I think it is a fantastic idea to have it at your own house.  Like you said, gives everyone a chance to see the nursery and you don't have to haul everything home.  It isn't fun, believe me!  I think we had to make two trips from Surprise to North Phx because it wouldn't all fit in our truck.  Just make sure that the invite states it is being thrown by your sister.
